A Real Nice Cafe on the Plaza with Very Good Food
Cafe Don Felix is clean and well managed. Sit inside or out. The lady running the place is pleasant and personable. The menu is extensive: mostly New Mex and authentic Mexican. The food was prepared quickly. The robust chips were excellent and the very spicy salsa was one of the best I've had. Enchilada OK, tamale very good, taco ditto. Beans and rice the norm. The carnitas (very crispy and tasty) and the red and green chile con carne were something special...very good and served with warmed, slightly fried tortillas. The red chile sauce was especially superb!! Makes for an excellent meal. A very good Mexican bistro in a real neat place, Old Mesilla. I highly recommend it.    [07 Apr 2006 22:20:37]

Second Thoughts
Cafe Don Felix is a nice little cafe on the Mesilla Plaza. While not the most comfortable place in the world, Natalie always makes it a worthwhile stop. I still order the wonderful Old Mesilla Carnitas with its green and red chile con carne. However, I believe there might have been a change of cooks over the past couple years and the food is not always five star. Standards may have slipped a little. I have had a couple mediocre sandwiches and some food that arrived almost cold...seemed as if it were reheated?? The cuisine rating has dropped in my humble opinion. I would still rank Cafe Don Felix in the top 15 Mexican restaurants in the Las Cruces area on Roberto's famous rankings list, but perhaps closer to fifteen, good but not outstanding. Then again, watching Natalie is always enjoyable and worthwhile.    [15 Jun 2008 16:17:27]
