Decent Little Cafe Dick's Cafe in Mesilla is smaller than its brother cafe on Valley Rd., but the ambiance is nicer. This is a small restaurant with closely arranged tables, but it is not uncomfortable. The carpet was a little threadworn however. It is more comfortable than the Valley restaurant and a heck-of-a-lot quieter. The other Dick's is more of a truckstop atmosphere. This is more a small cafe. We were served by a middle-aged Hispanic woman who was efficient and friendly. Refills on drinks came automatically. The menu here is Mexican and burgers with a few large salads. The chips were good and the salsa very good! The french fries that came with the meals were large and retained some skins. They were good, but not exceptional. The jumbo burger was one large patty, but if you wanted cheese and green chile you had to pay extra. The burger was good, but not outstanding. The burger bun was a little tasteless and mediocre. The Mesilla Melt was a good burger with sauteed onion and melted cheese on toasted sourdough bread. It was good also. The grilled chicken salad had a lot of chicken in it...a real plus these days...and was good. It was not the tastiest or spiciest salad but a good one. No Mexican meals were sampled so we cannot comment on them. The bill for these three small meals was a hefty $26.00...a little steep for two burgers with fries and a salad. All-in-all, a decent experience but not one I'll be rushing back to repeat. [27 Jun 2007 14:14:41]
