Beautiful Place with Good Food The Double Eagle is a beautiful restaurant in an old building in Mesilla, right on the plaza a few steps from the church of San Albino. White tablecloths and a magnificent chandelier in one room and beautiful plants and palms in an open area in the center, a more casual area of the restaurant. A great place to dine. Service is more than adequate; not top of the line, but very good. The food is above average to excellent, with a Southwestern flair. Chicken Mesilla is very good, as are the salads. I particularly liked the orange flavored viniagrette dressing. The aged steaks are very good, but not comparable to America's finest steakhouses; however, they are much better than most typical Western steakhouses. They are fairly high priced. The baked potato that came with my steak was huge and very good. A separate plate came with sour cream, butter, and chopped scallions; put on what you want, a nice touch. Don't let the prices of the steaks scare you off-- this is a good restaurant with good food and most of the prices are very reasonable. Many meals run between $10 and $15.00. For $2.45 I got a chile relleno on the side. It was too cheesy for my taste and the chile didn't seem to have the most robust taste. The green chile sauce on it was pretty good, however. It was ok. But everything else in all the meals served was very good to excellent. (One disappointment was the salsa which had large tomato chunks, but was watery and didn't have much of a bite.) I highly recommend a visit to this restaurant. Certainly one of the best in the area. [08 Feb 2006 18:40:06]

Must try You must ask to eat in the Ghost room... the atmosphere is awesome. We take all our clients there. The waitstaff has tons of personality, and the food is fabulous. [10 Feb 2006 17:39:41]

Melt in your mouth steaks The server told us the steaks were incredible and she was right! I had never had aged meat and it seemed strange to me. It was a wonderful meal. Mesilla is a fun place to walk around and the Double Eagle is a great way to end your day! As a wine lover new to New Mexico here is my comment on the wine - I thought the wine was decently priced and good. Bring your Riedel wine glasses though. [04 Aug 2007 18:36:13]
