Good Historic Dining Spot with so-so Food! Went there to eat on Christmas Eve and it was, of course, busy. Service was excellent in this casual dining place. Atmosphere is quite nice in this historic building. Food is Mexican mostly, with a leaning toward the "New Mexican" style, i.e., more inventive and not quite as spicy. Relleno was very good, enchilada covered with a ground beef sauce...not the real red or green chile sauce. It was not so great. Ditto taco. Sopapilla was mediocre, but another dessert was delicious (sorry, didn't recall the name). Chips and salsa were good and the Christmas posole was excellent. Not a bad place to eat but real good Mexican food will be sought elsewhere. [24 Dec 2005 21:22:47]

The Best in The West-- or Anywhere Else If you have never experienced La Posta, you are cheating yourself. If is worth a drive from ANYWHERE! Superb Mexican cuisine, ambiance & service. Also one of the most historic buildings in NM, the old stomping grounds of the Kid! [26 May 2006 13:40:50]

Going Downhill We have been dining at La Posta for 20 years off and on when we visit family in Las Cruces. Every time the food and service has been great. This past week we went at 3:30 in the afternoon and while the service was still good, the food was horrible. The tortillas tasted like they'd been sitting since lunch and were very greasy and tough. It was obvious that we had not even eaten 1/4 of the meal when the waitress asked the "how's your meal" question? We shared with her that it was horrible and she asked if we wanted to speak with a manager. I told her we didn't need to speak to him, if she would simply relay the fact that the food was not good. She said she would. So, we never saw or heard from the manager, and she didn't even offer to correct the problem. On my way out, I decided to go ahead and speak to the manager (we were not trying to get free meals, we had already paid). His response, "oh, well, sorry about that. I'll talk to the kitchen."
We were very disappointed and will not be back. What happened to La Posta? We've never received that treatment or service before. Just thought I'd let others know before they wait in line for a table only to receive lousy food. [05 Sep 2007 11:48:41]
