Very Nice Restaurant in Remodeled Hotel The Meson de Mesilla finally reopened January, 2008 after extensive remodeling. The new look is fantastic! This is now a super clean and elegant small hotel and restaurant. The grounds are beautiful. Lunch is served in the bar which is beautifully done and features a lovely view of the Organ Mountains. Large windows, a beautiful hardwood floor, and elegant tables and bar with large TV's and soft music make for an enjoyable setting. The service is pleasant and accommodating. The only minor complaint this afternoon was that the food preparation in the kitchen seemed a little slow...and I was the first diner to order. Be that as it may, when the food arrived it was tastefully presented. My muffaletta sandwich was accompanied by a small, but delicious spinach salad and a heaping pile of french fries. The sandwich was not a "genuine" muffaletta, (purists may be disappointed in this!) but it was delicious. Stuffed with ham and some salami, it had a delicious sauce and melted cheese with greens. It was served upon a toasted hard roll that was simply delicious. The fries were not your anemic fast food fries, but the seasoned and robust style. A very enjoyable meal for about $9.00. Dinner in this hotel is served in the front dining room which features white table cloths and a menu with duck, salmon, steaks, and a little something for every taste. Beautifully done, this is clearly one of the nicest dining spots in the Las Cruces area. Right across the street from the St. Clair Winery and Bistro, the area has two of the best dining establishments for a great dinner or a special occasion. Believe me when I say, this is "not" your typical motel restaurant! I highly recommend a visit. [03 Mar 2008 21:15:37]
