One of the Best in the Area Billy Crews restaurant is easily one of the best in the area. Ambiance is real nice without being overly pretentious or stuffy. Atmosphere remains relaxed in the Southwestern style. White table cloths and waiters going over all the glasses and silverware to make sure there are no spots. Tables are not too close to each other. Very comfortable setting. The service is very polite and professional; although not top of the line it is very good. Makes for a nice evening. The food is generally very good. A two-pound t-bone was cooked perfectly and very good. One of the better steaks I have had over the years from around the U.S., but not the best (it was clearly superior to L&L, the Double Eagle, and the Cattle Baron). The twice-cooked potato was very good. The stuffed jalapenos were very tasty as was the sauce with them. The salad was OK...nothing to write home about, but the veggies were crisp and fresh. The fresh rolls were mediocre...nothing special. The lamb was very good...not the best we have had, but right up there. The vegetables..green beans were fresh and firm and delicious. The only real disappointment was the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were a little soggy and not the freshest or best tasting. I do like the fact that there is a small bowl of horseradish on the table and one can mix and control the amount put in the cocktail sauce...good idea. The prices are somewhat steep in this restaurant...not out of line nationally for a restaurant of this calibre, but high by our local standards. The individual will have to decide for himself whether he wants a similar meal for two at Ourback or the Texas Roadhouse for $55-65 or one here for $85. Special occasion probably here...ordinary night out for a nice dinner, save the $20.00-30.00. Next time I will probably go with the pre-cut filet....there was a ton of waste on the 2-pound t-bone! I am giving Billy all five stars using local standards. He would be 4 to 4-1/2 using national standards. [02 Oct 2006 18:53:26]
