The Silver Cafe is just about Silver City's last chance for the real deal. The food is outstanding, the place is small but cozy. Best of all are the prices, still very resonable. I love this place. [18 Feb 2005 12:51:50]

Service? I guess that being a gringo gets you ignored. Have tried this place three times... the last one my friend and I sat for twenty minutes without even a word, but the Hispanic folks who came in got served immediately. I thought it was just a bad rumour, but I guess the experiment proved it true. Won't go back & won't recommend it to anyone, regardless of race. [10 Jun 2006 13:00:53]

I'm A Gringo! And I have been eating at the Silver Cafe since I was a kid. I've never had any problems with service and never heard of any. The food has always been great with my favorite being the chile verde with beans. We don't live in Silver anymore but we do visit frequently and the Silver Cafe is always on our list of stops whenever we are there. [17 Nov 2007 19:43:13]

Slow Service Nancy's Silver Cafe is one of the slowest places in town. You don't want to go if you have to get back to work in an hour. Waitress shows favoritism to people of her same race. The cooks are excellent and the food is hot and delicious. [05 Dec 2007 14:11:11]

Gringos not welcome! I recently was visiting Silver City for the first time and had the worst experience of prejudice I have ever had in my life. My two friends and I stopped into Nancy's for a late lunch. We were the only gringos in the place. Three tables of Hispanics came in AFTER us and were finished with their meals before we were even served. We waited 45 minutes for cheese enchiladas, watching as everyone else was served. It was obvious what was going on. A definite black eye for Silver City and any tourist trade they hope to encourage. [10 Aug 2009 11:37:09]

Worst Experience Ever! I wouldn't have believed it unless I experienced it myself. Unless you're Hispanic, don't bother with Nancy's Silver Cafe. We gringos waited well over half an hour for our meal and were completely ignored. Hispanic customers coming in after we did were served before we received our meals. Even an employee had her meal before we were finally served. Meal came only as we were getting up to leave. I have never been treated so poorly and the food was the worst. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Shame on Nancy's Silver Cafe!!!!!! [10 Aug 2009 13:56:00]

If you/re not Hispanic don't bother going in I'm not Hispanic and tried to grab a quick late lunch of cheese enchiladas, rice and beans with some friends. All the other customers were Hispanic, so we were sure the food would be great! Wrong. We waited almost 45 minutes for our food, 3 groups who came in after us received their food before we did! As we were gathering our things to walk out because of the poor service, our food arrived. Sorry that we stayed to eat it - it was the worst Mexican food I've tasted. An experience like this gives the entire town a bad name! [16 Aug 2009 15:39:43]
