I moved away from Socorro two years ago.I lived there for three years."And what does this have to do with a restaurant review?",you may ask.Well,of the things I miss the most,my good friends are at the top of the list, and El Camino is a close second. The first time I was taken there,it was after an evening at the Capitol Bar,and our friends wanted some chile cheese fries. What arrived were huge plates full of fries smothered in cheese and green chile.Being a city girl, from the east,I had expected canned meat and beans, dumped on a few fries. And the flavor was just to die for. El Camino quickly became the favorite place to go ,for my husband and I.We would each order something different, and trade bites. His favorite was the green chile cheeseburger.Never before had I seen a burger,so dripping in chile that it had to be eaten with a fork.My weakness was(and still is)the chile rellenos.I can still teste them, and have been known to hint to friends still in Socorro,to please ship me some. The wait staff is always friendly, and helpful, not to mention there as soon as they are needed. The prices are excellent-you definitely get what you pay for,and then some. I have never found, nor do I expect to ever find,a place with the same great food, prices, service, and atmosphere,as I found at the El Camino. [29 Sep 2003 14:54:28]

The Perfect Hang out Growing up in Socorro, my friends and I have always found time to go to the El Camino for a couple of hours, yes hours. No one would ever rush us or hint for us to leave. Not to mention the food was delicious. With their low prices, even my poor friends and I could afford to eat there daily! It's just a fun place with great people. Also, the service is fast! American & Mexican...and Good I visited El Camino Restaurant twice during a recent trip to Socorro (actually Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge). For dinner, a Combination Mexican Plate, which was served hot, by a congenial waitress, and everything was very good, and also the same in quantity. Returning the next morning for breakfast, I enjoyed my two egg, four strips of bacon, hashbrowns, two pieces of toast for under $5.00! El Camino is recommended, especially for multiple diners who want American & Mexican choices. Dinner with tea, and tip was still under $10! P.S. You will see "all kinds" of people here, but that's part of the traveling experience to places different from your homegrounds. :-) [19 Jan 2007 12:27:21]
