Oasis of refreshment and nostalgia... I discovered the Springer Dairy Delite several years ago on a roadtrip down I-25 en route to a wedding and family reunion, and I feel due to the uniqueness of the business in respect to its location, the place deserves a review. The Dairy Delite has since been a regular stop on my annual roadtrips since as it appeares to be the only fast food establishment between Las Vegas and Raton, New Mexico, a span of over a hundred miles. I find it the perfect opportunity for a brake from the monotonous scenery along that stretch. I believe this Dairy Delite may be a survivor of what was once a chain because I ate at another one in Utah a long time ago. Although the food is slightly better than most "burger" chains (everything cooked to order), the real attraction is the ice cream and dessert items, a real relief after a hot day of driving. I also remember once trying an "unknown" brand of root beer there that was really good. As eating places are scarse in this area, the Dairy Delite can get a little crowded at mealtimes on some days. Also, bring your cash as this is how this mom-and-pop operation does business. With the exception of some out-of-place video games which I've never seen kids playing, the atmosphere is a little old fashioned as well, reminding me of a mid-1960's drive in along the two-laned fronage road which was probally the highway when the place was built.
