Home made ravioli... here? If you find your self at Bruno's Country Club, Casino and Motel you will have traveled to nearly the end of the earth. There is not a lot to be found in Gerlach and Bruno owns most of it. Most people would not enjoy what can be found here but I love visiting this oasis. It is the kind of place where you open the door to the bar only to shine a beam of light onto the locals huddled around the bar.
I find I always walk to the end of the long old fashioned bar and find a stool. You must wait patiently for Bruno to find his way down to you. It is a bar bar. Bruno must be 80 years old by now and he does not have time to deal with impatient people. He will tell you where to go if you don't like the way it is here. But if you are patient and order a few drinks you will be rewarded with Bruno's warm personality and hours of stories about Gerlach in the old days and his time in Italy.
When you are ready you should move over to the restaurant side for a meal. It is simple dishes but I have always enjoyed the home made ravioli. It comes with a meat sauce and garlic bread. Follow it with a glass of the house wine (Gallo Hearty Burgundy) and maybe talk to your waitress. Mary has been working here for many many years but always serves a meal quickly with a smile. Drinks are cheap and the food always surprises me. It is an old school place with small town charm that draws me in with a smile every time I visit it. Enjoy... [13 Apr 2005 17:47:01]

Decent Place to Get a Hot Meal Bruno's is a quality joint where you will find hot food and a warm and inviting atmosphere. If you are looking for 5 star accommodations, looks elsewhere. These are simple folk who know how to cook a meal.
The motel is pretty rotten, but the service and personality of the staff more than makes up for it. [04 Oct 2005 01:11:08]

let's get real here I lived in Gerlach and I worked at Bruno's, I know the truth... the "secret" to the ravioli. Bruno held parties where he would invite like 100 people to stay in the hotel (where i worked as a maid)and come have ravioli at his diner and believe me i saw the bathrooms, i had to clean up the mess after these people got food poisoning, i know about the ravioli meat sitting on a counter for a week to "ferment" as Bruno calls it. I clocked in right next to that counter every day. Honestly DO NOT EAT THE RAVIOLI or the PORK!!! stick to the burgers and you'll be fine. Its a great place but watch what you eat. Prime Rib Dinner or Ravioli .... It's a toss-up ... Do I order Prime Rib or Ravioli ? No matter the choice, you will be delighted. Bruno Selmi has been the Commendatore' of Gerlach since the early 1950's and still tends Bar every evening, at age 84 !!! The Food is much more than good and the servings are ample, even for my big appetite. Don't miss it if you are passing through or visiting the Gerlach area. [10 Aug 2008 12:18:58]

Been hitting Bruno's since 1997 or so... Bruno has a vision, and the rest of us just live in it :-) The restaurant has been serving tasty, filling fare for a long, long time (my experience starts around 1997). The breakfasts are a great way to start a day, and the lunches and dinners are pleasant. The staff are wonderful. I'd eat there any day, and will again, come June and August. [04 Mar 2009 16:13:39]

Bruno makes great bloody Mary's also Bruno's Country Club is the oasis for Black Rock Desert country. Bruno's smiling face alone is worth the stop. Great eggs for breakfast, from his own ranch no less. His best dish is his Italian plate that turns up after a party. It's got chicken, pasta, roast beef and greens on a big platter. Yeah, that garlic bread dipped into the ravioli sauce is something you think about for the rest of the year. Like the title says, he makes the drinks strong and sometimes, if he likes you, they are on the house. Worth the trip from Florida every summer. [25 Mar 2009 23:10:05]
