RUDE host BAD experience A great two hours and a bad half hour. Well, my wife is trying to cool me down, but I am PISSED. First of all, this place was empty when we walked in at 9:30, and you'd think that they'd be happy that we dropped $300 here, but whatever. My wife, her brother and I took her parents to dinner to Banania, expecting a really nice time. And the host could have ruined our evening, but we are too nice and chipper for that. From the first second, this guy was haughty and rude to us. He snatched the newspaper from my wife's hands that was in her chair when we were shown to our seats, as if it was her fault that it was there in the first place. He then threw the menus down on the table, acting very aggressive for no reason that we could tell. Then thank god the very nice waiter came over, and then there was no trouble until the very end fo the meal. The package of salmon that we had to go that was not closed properly, and spilled all over my new pants. So I asked nicely to the host for some water to clean my pants, and he immediately blurted out "WELL you order eet TO GO NOOO?" So rude. NO apology. Not the least bit concilliatory, and I know it was my fault for spilling the salmon and everything, but the package had sticky salmon juice in it and wasn't closed properly. And all I asked for was a little water! I really don't wish that this very rude French host guy any harm, but neither do I wish him prosperity and luck either.
I have to say that the creme brulee was really good, a little thin, but good. The skate was pretty good. But as funny side note... I had noted to my family from the get go that the host seemed a little rude, but blah blah, some people in NYC are just like that, so what? But then me wife had asked for the snapper spicy, and it came SPICY, like nothing we had ever tried before. Spicier that any Thai Pakistani joint ever makes their food. No kidding. She choked it down, because she's not a complainer (not like me you say?). She remarked on the way home that whe thought it might be another incident in the series of passive/agressive acts committed by Banania. [22 May 2003 01:04:06]

Mr. Lucky
Wonderful I tried it and loved it.
From the host, to the waitress (server) and the food, everything met expectations. The prices are fair and the food is yummy!
Thanks Mishel for the great service [12 Dec 2005 15:31:10]
