Ash Bar Tabac unless you want We were served by a waitress who was O.K., but our meal was ruined by a surly, obnoxious waiter (who hadn't even served us) at the end who insisted on shouting out loud in front of the whole restaurant how much our tip had been and how inadequate he thought it was (for the record, he didn't even quote it right). We even tried to make peace with the waitress by telling her it wasn't her fault, but this lout insisted on escalating matters and basically was trying to provoke a fistfight. The manager shrugged his shoulders in indifference when we complained, and didn't say anything. Maybe the rudeness of the staff is part of the French "authenticity"? [03 Oct 2003 15:18:28]

Un Peu de Paris As hip as it is old-France, this restaurant offers its excellent fare to the background sounds of, variously, trip hop, live jazz, or Gainsbourg. The atmoshpere is warm and jovial, and while the young waiting staff comes and goes, the steady French contingent is likely to recognize and greet you with a handshake after a few visits. The main dishes, such as le coq au vin or moules mariniere, are very good, and so are the all-American drinks, but the charm which distinguishes this one from other French restaurants lies in small surprises: the truly authentic croque-monsieur (now available in many places but hardly different from you basic ham-and-cheese sandwich), the panache (beer and lemonade mix, a summer drink personified), and other typically Parisian items.
