Description
Sorge's Restaurant was established in June of 1951 in Corning New York, on historic Market Street. The authentic, well-prepared, home-made, Italian and American meals quickly made Sorge's the most popular family style restaurant in the Southern Tier of NY.

Homemade Bliss This is a restaurant that my family frequents on a regular basis. The staff is very hospitable and we know the owners personally, which always adds to the overall experience. They specialize in homemade pastas and even have a homemade buffet on Saturday nights that is very popular. The prices are quite reasonable and the restaurant is quite clean. Sorges has been at this same location for almost 50 years. A real treat if you happen to be in Corning. [21 Feb 2000 15:32:27]

Americanized American Italian After reading the previous review, one might think the food at Sorge's scores a passing grade. It does not.
The pasta itself is edible but the sauces and accompaniements are simply atrocious.
Sorry but that's the truth. [23 Jul 2003 15:43:02]

Great Values I'll have to agree with the first post, really a true landmark for Corning and The Southern Tier. We drive over 40 miles to eat here at least once a month. The sauce is to die for as well as the homemade Italian dressing for their specialty salads and antipastos. I checked last time, they opened in 1951, WOW, now that's saying something. Congrats to The Sorges. [28 Nov 2003 12:31:04]

Do you like Garlic? Italian food is flavor and action. We italians are know for great food and great wine.
This resturant does not have great food. The best part of the meal is the bread and that is nothing spectacular. While the homemade pasta is good. The sauce is horrible. I don't mean to be rude but it is. If you like flavor like garlic and herbs in your sauce do not eat here.
Try the breakfast, this is ok. [27 Jun 2004 09:11:48]

Gives Italian a bad name Family has tried this place on three separate occasions, hoping we would get different results than the first.
Nope. There are several decent Italian places in the area - this is NOT one of them.
They have maintained business here solely because of ignorant tourists and desperately hungry locals. [13 Aug 2004 15:00:22]

Unbelievably poor food Sorge's is a household name in Corning and by some miracle actually gets quite a bit of business. However, the food is unbelievably poor. We gave it two tries, and will never go there again. The pastas are overdone, the sauces tasteless and the chicken is, well, rubber. They even managed to ruin the beer. [14 Jan 2005 16:33:22]

A Unique Experience There is no doubt that Sorge's is a landmark in Corning NY. For the full life Italian review, I am sure that you think Olive Garden is a great experience. In anycase, Sorges is a FAMILY dining experience. While some of the food may have room for improvement, it is great to walk into a restraunt where the food is made FRESH on site, the owners are there at all times, and one always can see friendly faces. It's not intended to be the Ritz Carlton of Italian food in this small town atmoshpere. If you are looking for full flavor Italian try NYC or watch the Food Network. [11 Mar 2005 10:38:43]

Not Real Italian Food !!! This restaurant could take some lessons in real "Italian" cooking !!! They say the sauce is homemade...I say it is out of a can !!! There is no flavor or zest to it...Meatballs they say are homemade...I question that too...I'll bet they order them in bulk from a meatball factory...Salad is so skimpy, I'd be embarrassed to serve it...and they don't even put olives or onions in it !! The bread is ok...but it's just plain bread served cold !! Come on, at least serve it pipping hot with some garlic butter !! The butter is served in a little jacket that you have to fuss with forever to even get it opened and then they only give you 3 little packets !!! So when I'm hungry for Italian...I don't come here...I'll head up to Horseheads where they have 2 fine Italian restaurants, where u get a real Italian meal served with complimentary wines and you are really catered to in the true Italian spirit !! There is a reason it's been there for 50+ yrs. Sorge's Restaurant is what family tradition is all about. If people are looking for a great meal at a reasonable price then this is the place. The sauce and meatballs are wonderful!!
This is a business that has been trying to compete with chain restaurants that have much more money to work with. So if you are going to complain about butter packets... how about you try putting your heart and soul into something and seeing how much spare money you have to throw around.
Sorge's is what a family tradition should be about and is a wonderful place to take your family. [08 Mar 2006 11:30:58]
