A Well-kept Secret. Next time you're traveling in the Forestport area, make sure you find out why this restaurant is so popular with the locals. Great food, great service, great atmosphere, all at affordable prices. A great family restaurant. Features a wide variety of dishes. Dinner reservations are a necessity on the weekends when there's usually a wait for a table. Fireplace in the main dining room. Been there many times. Always a great meal. If you like good beef, this is the place for you. Highly recommended! [10 Apr 2003 22:45:12]

The Buffalo Head, A Tradition The food is and has always been wonderful. For over 20 years my family has traveled to Old Forge and has never let a trip go by with out a good cooked meal at the Buffalo Head Restaurant! [23 May 2003 19:18:41]

Fish Fry Stopped in Friday (7/25)and ordered the fish fry. The fish was terribly overdone. You should be able to cut it with a fork. Even a knife had a hard time. Stopped in a few years ago and ordered sirloin steak. Steak was cut about 1/2" thick and was soooo dry. Vowed to never stop again but tried Friday and found nothing had improved. 2 dinners at $8.50 each. Wasted! [26 Jul 2003 10:34:58]

Great Food I live in Central NY but visit Forestport often. Every time I visit, I make a point to go the the Buffalo Head. I've been there over 40 times and have always had great service, great food and I think the prices are great too. I love bringing my friends up with me and taking them there as well. The Best The best chocolate peanut butter pie! The turkey dinner came out so hot and it did not take long to come out...even a baked potato. [11 Jul 2004 22:44:11]

Tradition Every year at the time of the Remsen Barn Festival, we finish off the day with a dinner at the Buffalo Head. We take our parents there and feast on sumptuous steaks and pork chops.
It's a welcoming, warm ,rustic atmosphere...with great home cookin' to boot. Couldn't ask for a better way to end the day. It's our tradition. [24 Sep 2004 14:39:01]

French Dip Yesterday the 8/9/05 I went to the restaurant for lunch. I ordered a French dip and French fries. The meat was as old and tough as an old cow; I could only eat half of it. I don’t know how anyone can eat meat what was 60% gristle and barely edible. The waitress knew it but she never made an attempt to not charge me. I am a local and this place keeps going downhill the last 20 years. The only thing keeps this place going is the dumb tourist who doesn't know any better. [10 Aug 2005 07:55:59]

Shuffling off to the Buffalo The Buffalo Head has always been an integral part - and tradition - of our trips to nearby Old Forge, N.Y. Happily, this rural dining landmark has kept up the high standards by offering reasonably-priced steaks that would cost a mortgage in the big city as well as high quality seafood and chicken dishes. But it is the steak that keeps us coming back. Large in quantity and succulent in taste, there are few steak places that are better.
The atmosphere retains the "yesteryear" feel of a cavernous, rural, backwoods type place that is also friendly. Overall, the Buffalo Head is a place to remember and embrace as a rural dining gem. [24 Apr 2006 16:51:31]

Garbage at Best I have lived in the area for 50 years and the Buffalo Head used to be a great place to dine. My wife and I went there, had a turkey dinner, and it was pressed turkey. The dressing came fresh out of a box and was heated with water and microwaved. I'd rather go to a place with a smaller menu than be served this junk. Maybe they depend on the tourist but the local people avoid it like the plague; besides the local flies ate more than I did. I spend my dinner chasing insects. [23 Oct 2006 17:18:33]
