I tried several sushi dishes from their ala cart menu and the sushi & sashimi combo platter. The food was Excellent! Very flavorful, very fresh, and very beautifully presented. The service staff was very helpful and attentive. The atmosphere was very pleasant. It is a small place, but very nicely decorated. It is very typical for what you would expect from a Japanese restaurant. What sets Edoya apart is the chef. The chef is very well known in Rochester as one of the best. He is a very friendly native of Japan and makes sure each dish is the best. I would recommend Edoya over any of the other local options.    [17 Sep 2003 19:09:11]

best in Rochester
Edoya is the best sushi restaurant I've yet tried in Rochester (the others being California Rollin' in Village Gate and Plum House on Monroe). The food is amazingly good-- very fresh fish, well-seasoned rice, tasty miso-- and it's a really convenient place to get dinner before seeing a movie. It's also not terribly expensive compared to the others I've been to, though sushi on a student budget is always a stretch (which is why it's unfortunate that merely thinking about Edoya makes me crave sushi). While it's not a place with too many frills, it's a relaxing, unpretentious place to have some really good sushi, and despite the D&C's review, I've never had problems with the service there, partially because the waitress is never out of earshot/sight. Definately the best in Rochester
The sushi is the best I've had, my four year old is welcomed by the staff. This is a family run business and their personal pride shows in everything they do. If you love sushi you won't be disappointed.    [07 May 2005 18:06:55]
