Description
What was formerly Nick Tahou's II is now Steve T. Hots and Potatoes (reported as of March 9, 2007). This branch of the famous Rochester fast food dynasty, located on Lyell Avenue in Gates, is owned and operated by Steve Tahou and sister Joanne Tahou-Demkou.
Although the trademark name "garbage plate" officially applies only to the downtown location owned by cousin Alex, patrons are assured they can still get all their favorite menu items.
At Steve T.'s, you can order "hots and potatoes" (sometimes referred to as "hots and potats") or any type of plate you desire. In addition, this landmank Gates location will now feature Zweigle's hots dogs and Italian sausage, as well as Steve T.'s signature hot sauce.

New Name, Same Quality (Maybe Better!) I have been a customer at this Gates location for quite a few years. Although "first name basis" seems to be a status reserved for an elite segment of their clientele, the guys behind the counter almost always know what my order will be the second I hit the door.
Yes, this restaurant is now open under a new name, but the owners have gone on record in the D&C as planning upgrades to the facility and the menu: Zweigle's hot dogs are back, and some interior remodeling is coming soon, according to the article.
Now, everyone with half a brain knows not to expect candle-lit, gourmet dining at this establishment, but there are times when nothing but a "plate" from 2260 Lyell Ave will satisfy my hunger and my taste buds. It really doesn't matter whose name is on the sign! [12 Mar 2007 07:58:07]

Where's the Beef? I ordered take out – a garbage plate. This was a meager disappointment. The beans were stone cold and there was no meat/hot sauce. So I zapped it and added Tabasco. I ate the dogs and tossed the rest. The writing on the box was correct but not the contents. If I go again I will check the contents before leaving. [03 Aug 2007 15:00:41]

Rochester Grub Nick Tahou's (now Steve T's) on Lyell Avenue is a great experience with filling greasy food. It is the place to go after a few drinks or if you are in the mood for something w/lots of calories. I always get a garbage plate w/mac salad, homefries and everything on it. I then put some red hot on top. Most of my friends like adding ketchup. No matter how you put it together, [Steve T's] is the place to go for greasy, delicious food. I went to college in MI and my friends crave [Steve T's] and come here to visit me and that is the first place we go! [19 Dec 2007 14:07:42]

From Ohio I have family in Rochester but every time I come up from Cleveland my order gets bigger and bigger because everyone in Ohio who knows I go there wants a Steve Tahou hot dog... Best in the world... I just left there with a $220.00 order. I love you all - Keep up the good work! [03 Jul 2008 23:23:21]

-=Drool=- I went to R.I.T. and I tell you, nothing helps with an all night study cram like a plate at 3 am! The service has always been magical with the staff remembering an impossible number of orders and who they belong to.
Then to the tables and that first bite. I shudder with pleasure just thinking about it! When ever I go to Rochester that is the first and last place I go! [01 Sep 2008 07:29:56]
