An experience, not just a meal Definitely worth going to just for the experience - charming old place where there used to be a mill. expensive (but would be twice what it is if it was in NYC) GREAT, extremely well prepared dishes - small selection nightly - You could be in some place in France or Belgium in the countryside, or in a Dutch inn. Excellent wine list [28 Sep 2004 16:31:43]

A Fan!
This is my letter to the restaurant:
My partner and I had dinner at your restaurant on New Years Eve. The place is truly special and some of the food was outstanding, but I also feel obliged to pass on that the service was not good, and the addition of a twenty percent gratuity to the bill, especially for a party of two, caused us some resentment. We hardly saw our waiter all night. When he first came to the table, he asked us what kind of water we would like, and we asked for tap. When we still hadn’t received water by the third course after asking several times, we flagged someone other than our waiter down and ordered Pelligrino, hoping this would facilitate things, which it did. Several courses were served, but we were unable to start eating them because we didn’t have silverware and had to ask for it. We also ordered the wine parings and had to ask for the wine after we were served the course with which it was supposed to be served. One could say, “Don’t expect the city in the country,” which we were actually told by more than one of the staff there who complained to us about other customers and their bad tips. I don’t expect or want New York City in High Falls, but for a $75 gratuity, I expect decent service. Not even a New Yorker would be audacious enough to charge that and then hardly show up to the table. We did see him enjoying a piece of my ostrich, though, from the balcony.
I have heard great things about the restaurant, and we appreciated a lot of things about it but ultimately were disappointed with the experience and would have a hard time recommending it to others. [05 Jan 2006 16:47:52]
