A+ My husband and I have eaten at Becco many times and have never been disappointed in the quality of the food or service. Both are tremendous! We have also brought friends and relatives on numerous occasions; and they are now Becco regulars, as well. Though everything on the menu is delicious and well presented, our favorite is their "all you can eat" pasta special. Three types of pasta dishes are featured daily. They are extraordinary! We've had scrumptious beet and goat cheese ravioli, fabulous fresh tomato and basil over linguine, as well as a fantastic farfalle with Bolognese sauce. To die for! Forget the glass of wine and go for a bottle for the table. Becco features a great selection of wines for under $20.00. The pasta special comes with your choice of the Ceasar salad or antipasta. Both are delicious. They also offer a delectable assortment of desserts, if you haven't maxxed out your carbs! The tiramisu is a favorite. The ambiance is pure Italy, with classic wood and brick on both floors. Skylights in the back of the restaurant give the patron a feeling of dining al fresco. Whatever you order, be assured that you will enjoy every bite, and that the waitstaff will be attentive, helpful, and friendly. Enjoy an outstanding dining experience. [19 Jul 2005 17:05:41]

The Ferris family
Good for American Palates Honestly, I never get into the city but took the family to Becco for dinner. I knew it was owned by Lidia and Familia and thought to myself, "A real Italian, cooking the way my grandmother cooked...it has to be great!" I love this woman's cooking as it is very real Italian cooking.
Well, I loved the small intimate bar and though we had a reservation, we were seated a little early. Good so far. But, honestly, not all of my family was pleased and I had been let down as well.
As an Italian, I expect a great deal from an Italian restaurant and, at least, as good as Lidia cooks up in her kitchen on the Island. Unfortunately, this can't be said.
The second floor was cramped and overly noisy which made it difficult to address each other at the table. But, I digress. The salmon ordered by my brother and brother-in-law was said to be good as was the shrimp but no one raved about it. I had Joe's pork chop and it was tender and succulent. However, the garlic mashed potatoes were void of taste, as the dish must be made for the American palate rather than an Italian. No Italian would have called them "garlic". Also, the broccoli rabe was missing extra virgin olive oil, any olive oil by that means, and bland. The mushrooms again missed out on the flavor as they were dry by the time we got them to our table. I ordered a special pear and Gorgonzola salad and it too was void of flavor, with the exception of a sprinkle of cheese.
In all, it was nice to experience "Lidia's restaurant" but I will not go back. There are so many other wonderful places to eat...like my mother's Italian kitchen.
Maybe "Lidia's family" should follow up to be sure the meals are truly prepared in the manner they were meant. Americans fell in love with our cooking...why change for them now?
The true test to good eating is the "Ooh's and Aah's" after the meal and all the way home in the car. Sadly, this didn't occur and only heard about the let down the next day. Sorry to those who have a different sense of true Italian cooking for you missed out on it. Sadly disappointed. [27 Feb 2006 19:40:48]
