A Winter Brunch Waiting in line for a Kitchenette brunch on the weekend is well worth it, and easier in the winter with their enclosed doorway entrance to keep one from freezing. The decor is somewhere between a diner and a farmhouse kitchen and it seems that it was deliberately created. The service can be negligent to decent but the food is what one comes for.
The brunch includes everything from breakfast to a heavy lunch. However, the breakfast dishes stand out. Lunch is often mediocre.
For breakfast, their farmhouse scrambled eggs are always lightly but well-cooked and the accompanying homemade biscuits are most often great but due to lack of consistency, they can be disappointing at times. Their pancakes with fruit are amazing. Their pancake batter is flavorful and it feels healthier than most hearty pancake mixes and most often they use fresh fruit. The more elaborate omelettes are not worth the 8 plus dollars they charge. If I order an omelette, I want it to be better than one I can whip up at home, i.e. light and airy, not oily and without any overcooking. Like many restaurants, they prepare all egg dishes with egg whites only if requested.
The coffee has improved over the past year and now has more flavor but sometimes it can be difficult in getting refills when they are busy, which is the case on every weekend during brunch hours.
Overall, you are sitting in a place that looks like it is inbetween a city diner and farmhouse but the breakfast is definitely gourmet but not sophisticated, just down to earth and tasty. [28 Nov 2000 16:29:34]
