Best Shelter from the Storm on Manhattan The first thing my friend Kris and I heard as we opened the door to this below street-level bar was the sound of a happy piano player singing "Sunrise, Sunset." We immediately decided to stay. Marie's has no food, per se, except food for the soul. They make a killer whiskey sour and don't stint on the whiskey part of the sour. We decided that it was the best shelter from a stormy night in Manhattan that anyone could want. Not trendy or chic faux-hemian at all. Excellent sleepy dog. It was a great place! Cheers! My first visit to Marie's was Dec 18, 2004. My friend, Richard, and I sat by the bar and we sang! I felt at home as we all joined in harmony and became a family, and friends. It didn't matter if you knew the words, everyone helped each other (like the 12 days of Christmas! :)) and the vocalists were fantastic! The pianist and staff were so warm and accomodating. To all my new friends there, I was the lady in red. The night seemed so short. I'll be back! [23 Feb 2005 14:08:05]
