Must Visit If You Can Get In! Fantastic menu caters for all tastes, but be warned. Choosing may take a while as the dishes all look so good. What started as a quick lunch ended a 3 course extravaganza - mushroom bruschetta was simply divine - never knew you could make mushrooms on toast taste so good! Followed by simple choice of chicken and roast potatoes - again, could not be faulted. Now, we get to the piece de resistance.... 3 diners each chose a separate dessert, where were shared to groans of ecstacy on each mouthful. What looked on the menu a bizarre combination of tastes, textures and flavours all worked brilliantly to create the most amazing, yet not too filling, end to our meal. Definitely a Top Choice Of all the restaurants under the eye of Jean Georges Vongerichten, this is my pesonal favorite. Very cool atmosphere, wonderful waitstaff and the food is iconic. The word fusion is bandied about a lot, but this is where it is DEFINED. The Asian flavors and European techniques used to prepare them really epitomize what fused flavors should be. Please do yourself a favor and go eat here. [30 Jan 2004 15:28:44]

Not up to my standards In the 8 years I've lived in NY I've dined at many nice restaurants. And unfortunately Mercer Kitchen wasn't up to par with them.
I wanted it to be! It definitely has a cool, dark atmosphere going for it. But the menu was not overly innovative. So average...The waitstaff was rude and not helpful. With so many great places to dine in NY, why bother? Overrated! [18 Sep 2004 04:52:02]
