Description

Astoria's own "Cevabdzinica" which is one common type of Bosnian restaurant. A Cevabdzinica serves the Bosnian version of hamburger - pljeskavica and cevapcici (or cevapi). They are usually given in a special warmed bread (ljepina) and with onion. Featured along with the cevapi or cevapcici (a type of spiced grilled meat, little unwrapped sausages) are other grilled meats as well, like sudzukice (sausages), teleci raznjici (veal kabob), djulbastija (veal cutlet), teleci bubrizi (veal kidney), pileci raznjici (chicken kabob) and teleca jetra (liver). Grilled sweet red peppers are a good accompaniment. Also served are bureks (a layered filled pastry).

The dining area is spare with a half dozen or so formica topped tables. A good starting point is an order of five cevapi which comes with bread and chopped onions for $5.00.

Good People, great place
The people who run this place do not seem to have a very good grasp of the English language, but will not disparage your ignorance of Serbian or their food. I ordered the lamb kabob and was surprised to get it wrapped in that delicious bread. Though the Lamb was not the best quality, it was deliciously marinated and cooked just right. If they offer you the red sauce on your "sandwich," you must accept.    [27 Feb 2005 17:20:08]
