Popular Cyclists Breakfast Destination
For cyclists heading north from Buffalo or other points along the Canalway Trail, the Towpath Cafe is a friendly and accommodating restaurant. Many cyclists from Buffalo NY find the 12 mile ride from downtown Buffalo just about the right distance to work up an appetite for Sunday breakfast.

The outdoor patio is the perfect place to cool down and watch the passersby.

Service is quick and pleasant. I've been told that the sourdough pancakes are great. I have a wheat & gluten sensitivity so I cannot attest to this first hand.

Getting back on the canalway trail is easy. Just look for the Gateway to the Canal Sign and pedestrian bridge and you are back onto the canalway trail. To go south toward Buffalo is a bit tricky. By now I trust the Mayor of Tonawanda has taken my advice and marked the route. If not, get on Niagara Street south and look to your right to see the river. The Municipal building is a good landmark. Head toward the river and you will find the multiuse trail. Be careful, it's a popular spot in warm weather. Things improve as you get out of the city.

Keep in mind that The Towpath Cafe also serves lunch and dinner. I like the salads.    [18 Mar 2002 09:18:14]

Great food, Great Prices
If you like a mom and pop type of place, cozy booths, intimate atmosphere, and daily dinner specials, then this is the place for you. The waitresses will even learn your name if you go a few times.

The food is simple but hearty and reasonably priced. Meatloaf and homemade mashed potatoes, lemon chicken and a killer fish fry on Friday. Most dinners are priced around $7. Try the Cajun seafood pasta on Friday and Saturday -it's spicy and filling.

They have great breakfasts and lunches too. Home made hash and eggs, sourdough pancakes, and homemade soups can all be found on the menu.    [29 Apr 2002 09:07:52]

As Welcoming as Grandma's Kitchen
What a wonderful place to have a casual meal! Service is excellent, and everyone receives their meal with a smile. Food is always quick to arrive from the kitchen, even on the busiest of days. The outdoor patio makes for wonderful dining in the summer months, but the establishment is welcoming any time of year. Great place to go for dinners on evenings when there are ethnic specials served!    [04 Mar 2005 16:35:55]

Good Breakfasts
One of the better cafés in Tonawanda. Definitely one of the cleanest. We go there for breakfast. Reasonable prices, friendly staff, canal theme.    [07 Apr 2007 01:34:25]

Great People, Great Food
The food is great; fresh, hot, and delicious! all homemade dishes, the ethnic nights are excellent, and the service couldn't be better. The prices are more than fair, and they don't try to tack on a lot of extra prices. The atmosphere is great, partly due to local artist Ron Stein, and the bar is a nice extra    [06 Aug 2007 12:26:23]
