Canal Winchester: C.W. Olde Village
Description
A restaurant with a long history, also known as Shade's restaurant. Once closed and reopened, the restaurant is located in the historic old village just south of the center of town. The building has undergone extensive renovation inside and out with new siding, color, windows, doors and awnings. Just about everything is new except for the refinished wood floor from the original restaurant. The atmosphere is country casual with many local and historical photos on the walls along with some sports memorabilia. They do have a carry-out menu also.

Sweet Pickles in Canal Winchester Shade's on the Canal has a very similar casual atmosphere to Rooster's. The menu is creative and fun, as is the atmosphere. It's a needed addition to the Canal Winchester downtown area, and certainly packs in the business. [07 Sep 2004 14:28:52]

What? I found that even though the restaurant went under a complete restructure the atmosphere from management has changed and gives a cold snobby feeling of unappreciation to its customers. In such a small place one need not feel as if the management and staff are talking down to us, haven't you heard of the old adage "the customer is always right"? Especially a small blonde we overheard bragging to customers that she has part ownership? I would not attest to that fact. [27 Jan 2005 10:59:37]

A Great Place to Be Shade on the Canal is a great place to go after a hard day's work. The staff is super and the daytime bartender is sweet as a peach and drop dead gorgeous. She never stops smiling. The food is good, a little pricey but worth it. I recommended it highly! [02 Aug 2005 13:52:16]

A Classic Spot Shades is the place to be just to hang out and eat. The food is cooked well and the service is just as good. Its a small little place but it feels like home. The cooks there are also great, I talked to one of them, Scott Gibbons, and "He loves the atmosphere around him". Scott also is a great cook i must say. I recommend this place for families, friends and anyone who is looking for a good time. [20 Sep 2005 15:52:05]

Friendly and Fun My many visits to Shades have resulted in great dining experiences. Good food served in a very friendly atmosphere. The slow smoked meats served at Shades rival the area's best. Seems like something you would find in German Village. Went to a b-day party in the old Pine room. Brought back memories of the old days in Pine room. Thanks Shades! [12 Oct 2005 10:59:30]

Great Food The menu features mostly sandwiches, although they do have a smoked chicken platter. The smoked chicken will be a little red inside from the smoked cooking process. The Alaskan fish sandwich is large and a great tasting choice. Grilled hot dogs are a popular choice for children and adults. The atmosphere is that of a sports bar and restaurant with many TV screens, a back wall with OSU Buckeyes decor and some historical information along one wall. Service primarily from teens was very helpful and attentive. [14 May 2006 05:10:48]

Great Alternative to the Area's Restaurants The waitresses are pretty good here, and the bartenders are rival to many other bars/restaurants around. The food is in fact a little pricey but I do go about twice a week to treat myself or family after work. The kitchen crew is awesome. I too had a chance to speak to one of the cooks named Jeremy Wright and he said that the kitchen crew takes pride in making good food. He added that some of the best personalities are in that kitchen, people just need to stop them whenever they are out in the dining area to simply ask about our food menus because we know the food even better than the waitresses. Wings Are Back The chicken chunks are good and now the wings are here and they are great.
Some of the best service and food I've had in a long time. Big menu, great bar staff. TV's everywhere to catch a game. [30 Nov 2006 19:26:47]
