Gastronomic Anthropology I'm adjusting to an excess of changes in and about my life recently, some of which keep me from sleeping, but one thing remains -- I get hungry. For a long time I've been wanting to eat at an interesting diner just blocks from my home, and on 13 January 2006 schedules came together so I managed to get a friend to join me there for a late dinner.
The Goody Boy Diner, at High Street and East Fourth Avenue in Columbus' Short North District, is little changed from its 1940's-era opening. For better or worse, one perches on little rotating chromed stools anchored before two small rectangular counters with views of the grill. Purchased seven years ago by an Albanian immigrant who appears to be its sole employee, it features good American comfort food, from breakfasts to liver and onion dinners, at prices that make you want to tip 50 percent in order to ward off guilt...
C'mon -- what red-blooded American can't love a place that puts mayonnaise on a sausage sandwich without being told? [15 Jan 2006 01:21:35]
