Description
Thurman CafeVery popular Bar & Grill, large portions of American cuisine including sandwiches, appetizers, subs, wings, salads, beer, fried pickles and mixed drinks. The specialty of the house is a very thick 28-oz (1.6 lb) cheeseburger filling enough for two. Dark bar type atmosphere with long bar along one wall, televisions and booths/tables on the opposite sticker-decor wall, customers are a mix of blue collar and white collar workers. Can be difficult to find a seat at times, so arrive early for lunch or dinner. Open for lunch, dinner and late night. A popular neighborhood bar and grill since 1938.

Love It or Love Not The kind of bar / restaurant that you will love or love not. I personally loved the place, when we went there on a team outing from downtown. The lunch time seating is very unpredictable with so many avid fans of this popular place. Several TV screens at a very long bar on the right as you enter, limited group dining with one large booth that can seat 7 or 8 persons. The kitchen is hidden off behind the bar in this older style storefront building. Typical bar & grill fare such as extra thick cheeseburgers which are highly noted by some patrons. I thought the food was great and the cheeseburger unique from any I've ever had and larger than the 1 lb. at another gourmet burger place. The Thurman Cafe definitely has attitude, with some real characters waiting on you. Parking around the area can be at a premium at times, although I've never had a problem parking on one of the side streets in this German Village business district.
A great family-run bar & grill. [26 Jan 2007 15:45:19]

Simply the best My wife and I go to Thurmans on a nearly weekly basis, and we have never left unhappy. The food is spectacular. The best burger I've ever had, period. My wife is a huge fan of the corned beef sandwich, their salads are huge and fresh, chicken wings are amazing, and they even have what I would consider the best chicken salad sandwich in town. Their menu ranges from very good to amazing, and the prices are great for the quality and quantity.
I have been to the restaurant over 150 times and I know everyone who works there. The service is often slow (due to the fact that the place is always packed), but they are friendly and a lot of fun. I have never had a problem with the wait staff or management. [04 Feb 2007 09:09:26]

A fan!
ENJOY!! I've been here many times. I have always been satisfied with anything that I ordered. My son loves hamburgers and I took him there. When they came out with his 3/4 pound Bacon Burger, his eyes lit up. He ate the whole thing. The pizza thins are delish as well. The BLT is loaded and awesome.Keep doing what you are doing.
