For an hour on Friday, so did three Buddhist monks and their translator. The four came here for a week of meetings sponsored by the Ohio Metaphysical Society and the Unity Chapel of Light in Tallmadge. The meetings will take place at the church and other locations. Cafe owner Jimmy Van Hoose was thrilled at the visit, asking the monks to pray for the troops in Iraq and for people with mental and physical problems. ``This is a very spiritual place,'' said customer Rob Craven, a budding Buddhist and poet. . . . . - suggest change Jimmy's Cafe On Chestnut Boulevard in Cuyahoga Falls, colony of artists flourishes with style - The Beacon Journal, By Connie Bloom, 25 August 2002; Jimmy Van Hoose was floored by an unintentional parade of 12 baby carriages on Chestnut Boulevard in Cuyahoga Falls one recent day. Yes, he was compelled to count them. ``I said, `What is going on here?' '' he said, curious. It is a street with which he has had some intimacy, having lived there as a kid. ``It was great before Dutch elm disease came along, a gorgeous street. I remember the trees -- and the shadows.'' The once-quiet side street off State Road in the Falls has given birth to a colony of artists and writers as well, Van Hoose, the gatekeeper, among them. Customers are bringing a higher, happier, more colorful profile to an otherwise nondescript neighborhood. Van Hoose is the free-spirited proprietor of Jimmy's Cafe, which is more of a coffeehouse than an eatery, especially since it serves nothing more substantial than crepes, cakes and the occasional muffin. It excels where libations are concerned, offering an array of fancy coffees, and Van Hoose himself will run a cup of joe out to your car if you honk and holler that you need some. - suggest change Jimmy's Cafe - ARTScleveland.com (now defunct), 27 January 2003; I had been keeping an eye on the progress for months. Something was happening at the small abandoned building a few blocks from my apartment. The old storefront had been sitting empty and collecting dust for some time. But now I noticed gold and purple trim had cropped up around the tiny shuttered windows nestled into the brick walls. Then one day purple awnings hung over the entrance. A decorative gold-trimmed fence soon rimmed the patio area between the building and the sidewalk. The brick facade turned every imaginable color. Strange wrought-iron furniture began to appear, shaped like butterflies, along with glasswork, sculptures, flowers. Vibrantly-painted umbrella tables sprouted like tropical plants from the cement. My interest was increasingly piqued as I daily observed the progress. So when a sign finally appeared proclaiming the arrival of - suggest change Artist: Lucky 13 Plays at Jimmy's Cafe - Folknet.org, By Larry Bruner; Open now for a year, and it's expanded once already. Also watch for entertainment from Jon Miller & Friends, - suggest change Volunteer expansion - The Beacon Journal, By Jane Snow, 19 May 2004; New Orleans native Jimmy Van Hoose has been itching to spice up his coffeehouse with cayenne pepper and file powder. This winter, customers helped him build a kitchen and triple the size of Jimmy's Cafe in Cuyahoga Falls, and within a month, the jambalaya should be flowing. How the expansion occurred was almost miraculous, Van Hoose said. Without solicitation, people donated paint, stained-glass windows and kitchen equipment. They helped him install light fixtures and a hardwood floor. ``At least every week, somebody was coming by and dropping something off,'' Van Hoose said. ``It's amazing. It became a real communal project.'' The menu hasn't been completed, but Van Hoose plans to serve muffaletta and po' boy sandwiches daily, and fill in with specials such as jambalaya and red beans and rice. Food will be available at both lunch and dinner. ``I've been toying with the idea of breakfast,'' Van Hoose said. A stage was built for live entertainment. Customers also can watch resident artist Becky Karadin create fiber works of art. - suggest change List of currently released books at the Crossing Zone called "Jimmy's Cafe"... - BookCrossing.org; Mere Christianity - Released into the wild about 6 mos ago (4/8/2004 BX time) - The Face - Released into the wild about 6 mos ago (4/8/2004 BX time) Dracula Released into the wild about 8 mos ago (1/16/2004 BX time) - suggest change Show 10 | 20 | 30 | 50 reviews on each page Piano Bar Lone oasis of culture in Caucasian Falls The place to be.....
