PAKULSKI, 3 March 2003; Don't even suggest to vice president Harry Dionyssiou that Rudy's Hot Dog be renamed Rudy's or Rudy's Family Restaurant to better reflect the large menu and to be more inclusive for diners who prefer less fattening fare. "If we dropped `hot dog' from the name, we might as well say we're gonna be dead," said the 69-year-old restaurateur through a thick accent acquired in his youth on the Mediterannean island of Cyprus. "The name has been around for so many years." Founded in 1920 by Rudy Poturedes - "Uncle Rudy" or the "Old man" to Mr. Dionyssiou and his brother Andy - Rudy's Hot Dog today is a chain of six Toledo-area restaurants with an estimated $4 million in annual sales. The business, with its familiar crown-bedecked wiener mascot, is a reminder of a bygone Toledo that has been largely erased by changing tastes and a procession of national restaurant chains du jour. Hot dogs remain the most popular menu item, and Rudy's sells more than 8,000 a week. Chili Mac is another customer favorite. - suggest change

It's a meaty concoction made without the typical beans and flavored with a touch of cinammon. It can be served plain in a bowl, or over hot dogs, or on top of spaghetti. One of the best examples of this great taste treat is served up at Rudy's Hot Dog in Toledo, Ohio. I grew in Toledo and I always stop at Rudy's whenever I'm home for a visit. - suggest change

Never had anything that taste so good! Live out west and wouldn't miss a chance to eat (and get plenty extra to freeze for later) everytime I come through town to visit my daughter and her family.    [31 Jan 2007 13:08:38]
