Oxford odyssey - Miami University isn't the only destination when you head north on Ohio 27 - CIN WEEKLY , By SHAUNA STEIGERWALD , 17 December 2003; It's clear that this uptown bistro subscribes to the sentiment behind the Frank Lloyd Wright quote written above the entrance to the ladies' room: "Dining is and always was a great artistic opportunity." Painted on the sunny yellow walls of this welcoming restaurant are colorful food items and beverages. The kitchen also gets in on the creativity; butternut squash and pear soup ($2.75 for a cup; $3.75 for a bowl) - a creative offering in and of itself - is served with the word "Kona," a star or whatever else strikes the fancy of the chef, written on its surface in sour cream. Vegetarians, vegans, meat eaters and even kids will find plenty of appealing options among the soups, salads, sandwiches and pastas served here. Lunch for two, including tip, is around $25. TIP: If you're a fan of the Bonbonerie (who isn't?), save room for dessert. Several of the bistro's offerings, including the opera cream torte and carrot cake ($4.95 per slice for either), are masterpieces from the Cincinnati bakery. - suggest change
Kona Bistro & Cofee Bar - www.joenwolfrom.com, by Joen Wolfrom; A really fun, casual place to eat in Oxford, Ohio, is Kona Bistro & Coffee Bar. I ate dinner at Kona twice. Appetizers included crostini and mediterranean munchies. The baby greens gourmet salad was excellent for dinner. The Thai salad looked scrumptious. It was also hot and spicey. The selection of sandwiches is great, and they all sounded gourmet-ish and tasty. Also, there is a nice selection of pastas. The entrees included such things as jambalaya, Indian stuffed burrito, ale marienate flank steak, and island grilled chicken. For those of you who head for Oxford for alumni weekends, conferences, or parents' weekend, this is one of the few very nice, casual eateries. - suggest change

Look for the Purple Storefront I enjoy the Kona everytime I dine there. Reasonable prices, out-of-the-ordinary selections and very good service. I especially enjoy the "yesterday's soup" selections. The smashed salmon soup was most delicious. [11 Feb 2006 23:15:31]

I miss it!!!! I have been living away from Oxford for four years now and STILL crave Kona's sweet red pepper soup. If you need the perfect place to find quality food in a warm and cozy environment, Kona is for you.
I only wish they would open one in California where I now live. [14 Apr 2005 19:46:10]

Their garbanzo burger is the BEST I have ever had -- and I'm not even vegetarian. Great taste and always fresh, thank God they opened one in Cincinnati. [07 Jan 2005 11:12:16]

Hot Damn! I've never eaten in a restaurant where so much effort was put into my dining experience. Everything is made from scratch, prepared perfectly to order(as they don't believe in heating lamps!), and delicious is an understatment. I love the Greek pasta dish and the Flank steak marinated in Pete's Wicked Ale. They also have good sandwiches, which they spice up with a unique twist. The B.B.T. is a great example, it's a B.L.T. with basil rather than lettuce and cracked black peppercorns for spice. The vegetarian sandwhich is also a good choice. If all you need is a snack, you can never go wrong with a side of their white cheddar mashed potatoes. Stellar! [19 Sep 2004 16:49:20]

Yummy! Kona has the best mashed potatoes ever!! And the rest of the menu uses fresh ingredients and puts a unique twist on regualar favorites. Luckily, the owner is opening another Kona in Cincinnati ... Oakley Square next to Dewey's Pizza. [11 Aug 2004 10:49:57]

Perfect dinner in Oxford A great little restaurant, with a comittment to quality, fresh ingrediants and good service. Try the shrimp quesadilla, the woodsman's linguine, and, especially, the smashed salmon salad- one of the most surprisingly good entrees you will experience. [15 Jan 2004 19:31:12]

Kona - Best Food Around Kona must be Oxford, Ohio's best kept secret! For Starters: Order their Shrimp Quesadilla. It has delicious shrimp inside along with cheese, tomato, fresh cilantro, scallions, jalapeno & citrus, paired with a cilantro sour cream & corn tomato salsa - delicious! If you like pasta, order the Greek Shrimp Pasta with feta, tomato, geen pepper and oregano sauteed in olive oil, balsamic vinegar & feta. It's better than Olive Garden! [19 Jan 2003 19:30:12]

Also my favorite Excellent food, decent prices, good service, limited menu of well thought out dishes. A little on the small side (it's a two story hole-in-the-wall) so make reservations for the prime dining nights! [24 Aug 2002 16:15:01]
