Description

Pizzeria New York

New York style pizza is the specialty of this restaurant opened early in 2004. The wide screen TV is tuned to sports while two smaller TVs are playing the Nickolodean channel. The kitchen is easily seen from the dining area, where they oven bake up Italian entrees, pizza, subs and calzones. A bar sits in the corner and the decor is similar to a sports bar. Appetizers include breadsticks, wings, twists and several other choices. Delivery is limited and cost $1 additional (call for details on delivery.) Located in the same shopping center as Drug Mart.

Good Pizza
At our visit to Pizzeria NY we had the pepperoni pizza, pasta and pretzel-shaped bread. Wasn't sure what to expect from the pizza, but it was hand tossed with an excellent crust. Toppings, while far from the edge, were generous. The pizza sauce was good, but not great. Of course, everyone has their own personal preferences in taste so obviously many returning customers love the pizza. As for the pasta, the sauce was very good but they use the thicker spaghetti noodles instead of the thinner kind that I prefer. The "pretzel" bread was very chewy to the point of not something I would want again.
Service was excellent once I had their attention, the only suggestion would be to at least say something to you within the first several minutes of waiting at the counter. Norm was there and the first impression was mixed, however he was very pleasant after attending to some baking. The teenage help taking the orders was very helpful once I had their attention. Ambiance was very different depending on where you were standing. The one corner is like a sports bar complete with large screen TV, the back has a long counter in front of the kitchen typical of a family pizza shop. The tables farthest from the entrance were nondescript with a small TV sitting near the ceiling turned to a kid’s channel.
The tables sitting on the side with the bar match the sports bar theme. Overall the kitchen and dining area are very clean; it is obvious that the staff and owners care a great deal about proper care of the kitchen and dining areas. Good pizza with an attitude.    [01 Jul 2007 23:32:35]

The Best
This is the first decent traditional pizza place I have found since I left New York. Friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere and nice big slices that an East Coaster grew up on.    [11 Jul 2004 09:30:59]

We love this place....
I love that big slice pizze NY style and this place is great. We've been looking for a good place since we moved from AZ(shout out for Brother's Pizza in Avondale) and we found it. Two times we have been right as they open and it was a great time to go with our children. The big tv playing kid friendly stuff allowed hubby and I to actually talk during dinner with one another! LOL
I love this place--in fact, I came across this site looking for the number to order dinner! YUM!
We love the Strombolis too btw--they are awesome!    [21 Aug 2004 20:31:37]

Best Pizza in Pickerington!
Pizzeria New York has a thin-crust large slice true New York pizza!!! We heard Pizzeria New York talked about on 610 WTVN radio, and tried it. They have the BEST calzones in Pickerington!    [04 Oct 2004 13:49:51]

Highly Recommended!!
My wife and I drive an hour to get this pizza. If you like your pizza thin and crispy like it is on a saltine cracker DO NOT GO HERE!! If you want real NY Style Pizza, the kind you have to fold up like a taco when you eat it, along with a kid friendly atmosphere, and an owner who cares about his business, this is the place to go. My wife and I have been on a quest forever to find some real NY style Pizza... Norm and the rest of the guys over at Pizzeria NY have it nailed. First heard about the place on 610 WTVN on Curt Boster's show. You WILL NOT be disappointed...    [20 Feb 2005 20:40:42]

If you want to eat pizza squares go somewhere else!
This is east coast pizza folks. To those of us that grew up back east this is a pizza haven from the typical stuff most pizza places serve around these (Columbus Ohio) parts.    [18 Jun 2005 10:44:44]

In a word....disappointing
We visited this pizzeria 3 times. 2 times they were out of dough at 7:00pm. 1 time we did have a traditional pepperoni pizza. Service was teenage operated, and the pizza was a bit too greasy. There was one young man tossing dough by the counter who was good with customers.    [26 Apr 2004 11:56:39]

I love this place
I had never tried New York style pizza until I walked in the door one day. I wanted to try something new and I was in the mood for pizza. I tried one slice and I was hooked. It is the best pizza that I have ever had. I moved away from Columbus this past May and haven't had a good slice of pizza since. But it is worth the 2 hour drive just to get it. Oh and the Garlic knots are addicting. Sooooo good.    [20 Sep 2005 01:04:39]

Poor Customer Service
I love New York style pizza, but was not too impressed with Pizzeria New York. The most disappointing aspect of this restaurant was the total rudeness of the owner, Norm Honecker. Norm's customer relation skills need quite a bit of fine tuning. The teenagers working for him had more maturity and class than this grown man. I would recommend to anyone to spend your hard-earned money elsewhere. There is no point in supporting a business that is completely devoid of good service.    [15 Nov 2005 20:10:42]

PNY is my favorite!
