Expensive Very good food, however the sticker shock arrives when they deliver the check. The chef entertained us by balancing eggs and the kids greatly enjoyed the show. We will have to save up for our next visit. There are other Japanese steakhouses in town that are less expensive. [22 Mar 2004 09:02:52]

Change in Quality & Service Genji's first location was good. The quality of food was exceptional, service was exceptional for awhile, you were greeted by the owners, and most of the chefs were from Benihana's. Since they moved, that has changed. Now you walk in to be greeted by someone wearing a set of headphones. The bar/waiting area is too small and you feel like you're in a herd of cattle. Sometimes service is good, sometimes not. The quality of the food has decreased a bit, and it's still pricey. [27 Apr 2004 15:25:31]

Yum Yum Sauce! For the 30 people who have posted wanting to know what is in yum yum sauce, the recipe is at www.japanese-steakhouse-white-sauce.com . I've been searching for this receipe for years also, and finally found the real thing last week!
Genji is a typical American-style Japanese steakhouse, similar to Kobe or Osaka. Although most of what is served in America does not resemble real Japanese food, it's still good and the antics of the table-side chef always entertain the kids. [01 Mar 2006 17:50:53]

BAD IDEA - VERY BAD IDEA This is the absolute worst restaurant that I've ever eaten at. I practically gave my money away. The Chef that we had prepared our food as if it were his first day of "chef training". Not to mention, he screwed every other person's order up at the table, and didn't offer as much as an apology. With such high prices, you would think GOOD SERVICE would be a given...NOT!! The lack of quality of the food & chef was only outdone by the equally rude management...and they say this is a family owned business!! Don't waste your time or your hard earned dollar! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. [01 Sep 2004 10:49:03]

Wonderful experience We were very pleased with our whole experience. We had eaten at the old location several years ago. The new location is clean and more open. The staff were friendly and very courteous. The chef was not only very nice, but, entertaining. He did many tricks during preparation and was personable. We have eaten at other steakhouses in town and found the staff were unable to relate and/or communicate very well. I had the steak and chicken combo with fried rice. It was absolutely delicious. They have a special sauce called yum yum. It is fantastic! We have never had it anywhere else. The price wasn't bad at all. We spent about $22 per person. We have found that to be pretty average for most of the nicer restaurants in town for dinner. The people we shared our table with were very nice. [18 Dec 2004 23:40:03]

A great time! My wife and I regularly dine here with our friends. We've never had a bad visit. The chefs are always entertaining and we've never had an order messed up. A fun atmosphere every time.
There are several times where there are entertaining things that may frighten very younger children (loud, suprising things). Please keep this in mind before taking the young ones here. Usually okay for kids over 2 or 3 years old. [09 Jan 2005 14:04:13]

Not great food I don't understand the rave reviews people give to this restaurant! In foreign countries, people are amazed at Americans' bland food tastes. American people seem to love horrible food. If you want real Japanese food go to a true Japanese restaurant in Columbus. Stay away from Genji.
(The name of the restaurant is Genji not "Jenji" as most say.) [17 Jan 2005 18:06:49]

I've been to a lot of Japanese steakhouses and it does not appeal to me. They don't give you enough food and they don't have the right sauces and spices. This is the only Japanese steakhouse I will go to and it is one of my favorites. The yum-yum sauce makes the meal PERFECT! I wish I knew the secret:) [31 Jan 2005 16:21:28]
