Butch's Italian CafeServing Italian cuisine in the heart of Whitehall, east of Hamilton Rd. on E. Main St. This restaurant was acclaimed in a past Grumpy Gourmet article. The official history of the restaurant:Butch's Italian Cafe is owned and operated by Butch Zurbriggen. Butch has owned the restaurant for 8 years, but his roots here stretch much further. Butch began working in this very building in 1969, when it was Joseppi's restaurant, and he was only 13 years old. He mowed the grass and cleaned up. Soon Butch got a job as busboy and later he moved up to dishwasher. In these early years the restaurant took on a name change. You may remember it as Armando's. Butch continued to work at the restaurant through his teen years and into his early twenties where he eventually learned the find art of good Italian cooking from his mentor, and then owner, Tom Moretti. When Mr. Moretti decided to sell, Butch got the opportunity to continue its success, and has done just that for 32 years. That's a lot of "on the job" experience. Butch now operates a newer restaurant of the same name in Canal Winchester. Not sure of the status of the ownership of this location, however an C.W. article seem to indicate he had sold his interest in the Whitehall location which may be renamed at some point. No matter, as they have continued the tradition of fine Italian dining. The restaurant is known for it's "build your own pasta dish" selection of ingredients and styles. Specialty dishes include Parmesan chicken, various pasta dishes, pizza and many other choices. This is an upscale Italian restaurant.
