Great Little BBQ Shop in Atoka
Unka Pete's is not your run-of-the-mill BBQ joint. I have stopped in a couple of times while doing land work in Atoka and the food is outstanding. The recipe for Unka Pete's sauce has been in the family for over 100 years and according to the proprietor, his grandfather perfected it while a slave in the south. It was passed on to his father and his father passed it on to him.

This guy really seems to take pride in his food and that is a rarity for small BBQ joints from my experience. For example, he uses sirloin for his chopped beef sandwiches instead of brisket due to the lower fat content.

While there, you can pick up a jar of his sauce which is made in the actual restaurant and bottled for him in Dallas.    [25 Jan 2006 18:52:38]
