Oklahoma's Best Burger The Meersburger (and Meerscheeseburger) are arguably the best burgers you'll ever eat, made from lean Texas Longhorn beef from their own herd, free from antibiotics, pesticides and growth hormones, freshly ground, cooked to order, and served old fashioned. Other menu fare including steaks, barbecue, and home-baked bread is best described as "down home" cooking, excellently prepared and served in ample quantities.
The service is great, and the staff is always friendly if perhaps a bit overwhelmed during rush periods that seem to happen often. One bit of advice is to get there early, as the location just north of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge means there's almost always a waiting line, especially on summer weekends.
The restaurant itself is located in one side of a historic mining camp store building dating from 1901 that was moved to its present Meers (population six people, eight cats and a dog) location in 1925. The decor of each section is original from the time it was added - the walls are festooned with historic photographs of people who have visited and eaten here since 1901, and almost all the remaining open space not decorated with antiques is covered with the business cards of past diners and visitors.
