Penny Wise and a Pound Foolish My wife and I had the recent experience of being told that they would not honor a gift certificate that was purchased for my wife for her birthday last year and was about to expire. They said that they would not even extend it an extra day! We have eaten there 3 times in the last year and have either forgotten the gift certicficate, or the bill exceeded the value so much that we paid another way. We have previously considered it one of the better restaurants in town. We will not be returning, nor will my father-in-law who purchased the GC. He has always eaten there when he comes to town (3-4 times per year). There are several restaurants wtihin walking distance that offer much better customer service and understand retaining long term customers. We estimate that our family spent between $900-1200 last year and will receive no more. This decision not to extend the expiration date was decided by both the owner and manager of the establishment. I am very surprised by this, I have worked for many years here in Portland in the restaurant business and all of the ones that I have had the pleasure to work for would have handled it a different way. When I stated that I would not be returning, the manager said "we sold 2 1/2 million dollars last year". This was said as if to say that they do not need our business. I know that they do not need our business, I am only sorry that I contributed to it in the past. [13 May 2007 20:26:53]
