Hip and Delicious A lot of places in this town have great ambiance, interesting people, cheap food, and vegetarian options. Not a lot of places in this town have anything more than some version of burgers and sandwiches, often running together in a sea of blandness. Delta Cafe costs a bit more than some places (the best bet for a budget meal, the "Po' Boy Sammich" goes for $8, more than this po' boy usually spends on his supper), but for once, you get what you pay for. I had the catfish Po' Boy, and a side of collard greens (included in the $8). The fish was perfectly battered, and there was plenty of it, layed out simply on a long roll with a single perfect leaf of romaine lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo. The collards were not bitter or over cooked as they sometimes are, and were cooked with a delicious pork sausage (vegetarian versions of all the sides are also available). I left much more full and satisfied than I have at many other restaurants, and only a couple bucks poorer than if I'd gone elsewhere. I can't go every night, but it's certainly an affordable and worthwhile splurge. [29 Jun 2003 02:45:24]
