Furnished with art, memorabilia, and items of Valley history, such as the famous crystal chandeliers that once hung in Hess's department Store, The Shanty is a refreshing departure from revolving-door restaurants and fast food chains.

Once Upon a Time The Shanty used to be a top notch, locally famous eatery with a fine reputation for its excellent cusine and unique ambience and charm. No longer true, ownership has changed and since that sad day 2 or 3 months ago, the staff changes faster than a line at a checkout counter, the menue changes constantly (don't think the owner can spell either), the service is slow (maybe b/c there are new "chefs" and wait staff every week. I have given this place the old college try with 3 visits in 2 months and every time has been a disaster. The food tastes good: however, you never know what you'll actually get since some of the descripions of food seem to be mispelled creation of half Korean and English, and, they are out of things consistently. The most fortunately of all, if you stay for the entertainment, I can almost guarantee that by 2:00am you will have the interesting added entertainment of hearing the 5'6", 90 lb. owner screaming at an employee with every four letter word in the English language. Sorry, why'd you leave us Mr. Saylor? [27 Sep 2005 11:09:00]
