Better Service Please
I had been to Totaro's many times with friends from work or at company dinners. Always enjoyed my meals there. I enjoy the variety of the main courses and the selection (specially of wild game). On Monday night, after being at a viewing near the area, I decided to stop by and have my boyfriend try the place, since he was never there. I admit it was a bit late, but I know that sometimes you can still enjoy a drink and something quick to eat at the bar. It was 9:40 pm when we walked in. There were people still eating in the dining room and there where waiters gathered at the bar chatting away. We waited, unattended while everyone at the bar ignored us, Even the hostess, who was chatting away with the rest was giving us the cold shoulder. I finally approached one of them and asked if we could still order something to eat. She told us "let me check with the "chef", who was just a couple of feet from her. They mumbled among themselves and she turned around and said: "sorry, we are closed" - so I very politely thank her and left.

It was 9:40pm! Advice: You do not turn customers away so rudely and without offering any alternatives. At least they could have told us we could order a drink. Never again will I visit Totaro's or plan any company dinners there. It is a shame. If Totaro's wants to reduce their clientele, keep turning people away as they did to us. A little consideration goes a long way but bad service will hunt you forever. I have told this story to everyone I can. I think it's bad business. It seemed it was more important the conversation they had going on at the bar among employees of the restaurant than two people from out of town looking for the good food Tataro's was known for.    [11 Oct 2000 13:49:51]

Just Like Home
I have been to Totaro's a few times, my last visit being on a cold, rainy night. I sat at the bar waiting for my friend for dinner, not particularly wanting a drink, so I watched the news with the owner and was asked by two more waiters if I would like a drink. My meal was great. I called back asking someone to check the menu for the brand name of a great chianti I had with my dinner. This person answered all of my questions regarding the wine. Totaro's has been an enjoyable experience for me.    [05 Nov 2002 14:57:04]

We were at their restaurant on Monday night, and as usual, the food was excellent. The service was superb, and I'm looking forward to coming back. I had the filet with carmelized onions and blue cheese topping. For dessert I had tiramisu. Everything was delicious. Thanks for a wonderful meal!    [21 May 2003 16:32:06]

Lobster Salad Returns
I just wanted to thank the chefs for bringing back the lobster salad. My family has been going to Totaro's for special occasions (birthdays, anniversarys) for about 7-8 years and while I've always enjoyed each meal, the lobster salad is what I always looked forward to. About a year ago or so my husband and I went there and the salad had been taken off the menu, I was sorely disappointed. Our meal was still delicious but we stopped coming back for awhile just for that reason. This past June my husband again brought me for my birthday and to my surprise and delight, the lobster salad was back! Thank you for that and also for giving us an enjoyable experience every time we come.    [12 Dec 2003 15:45:52]

I go this this establishment quite often. Enjoy it every time. Most times the service is great. Sometimes less than perfect. Sound familiar? I know that sounds like me when I am at work--most times quick and on the ball, other times, not. Regardless, to the "Better Service Please" person above: Next time that happens to you, ask to speak to the manager or better yet, the owner. If you had, your situation would have been rectified immediately. This is one place you should never leave unhappy.    [12 Mar 2004 23:37:40]

I Love Totaros
Totaro's is like a family experience for me. First of all the employees are so polite, and thoughtful. I like it so much that I must eat there at least five times a week. What a great atmosphere.

The food is excellent.    [20 Aug 2004 14:23:35]

Totaro's-- a Fond Farewell
Heard that Totaro's has gone for a change. Their chefs have moved on to other endeavours. Hopefully the next decade will bring just as much good food and fond memories.

I had a similar situation, as I came in late and they served me but the waiter did not seem happy about it, although the owner was very nice. I thought the food was average and overpriced.    [21 Dec 2005 13:32:30]

Don't let the outside fool you!
A business associate took me to Totaro's for dinner with two other associates. It was my first experience since I live about 1-1/2 hours away. From the outside the restaurant looked like a quaint neighboorhood building that locals must frequent. When I entered the bar/lounge was filled with locals and the dining room was beyond that room. The dining room had that local atmosphere to it but a place doesn't have to be fancy to have good food although it was quite nice. I personally like local places in a town. Brushcetta is complimentary to start. I had the Buffalina Mozzarella with Tomato, Basil, and Balsamic Vinegrette which was excellent. For dinner I chose the Pescatore (a dish similar to Cioppini but a thicker sauce). It was outstanding. My associate ordered the Linguini Monsignori which he claims to be the best dish in the place. Another had the Wild Boar chop. Our waitress atteneded our every needs, was very courteous, and professional. I was very impressed with the wild game on the menu. The presentation of the dishes were extremely pleasing. When we were leaving there was a guitar player in the bar/lounge. Everyone seemed to be involved and enjoying a great time. I have a passion for cooking. This place is a must stop if you enjoy great food and know that it comes at a price on the higher end. Culinary experiences are not necessarily about price; that is why it is called an experience. Totaro's, thanks for a memorable experience.    [28 Apr 2007 11:27:41]
