Great food. I had food delivered, so I cannot tell you about what it's like inside the restaurant. However, the minimum for delivery was a bit on the hefty side, $15 min. Still, it was well worth it. I ordered the shrimp with garlic sauce and the curry chicken.
I have lived in Pittsburgh for quite some time. I have to say that I have found Chinese food here to be quite disappointing. But, the vegetables, seasoning, sauce, etc., used for the food items I had ordered were superb. The food didn't have the "too much broccoli or bamboo shoots" syndrome or too much salt & grease / feels like my arteries are going to clog and I'm going to have a coronary on the spot kind of thing.
The best Chinese food I ever tasted was from Good Taste, a Chinese restaurant in Los Angeles' Chinatown (which delivered also). $4 to $5 for a lunch entree. Everything was super good. Our whole floor, at the law firm I worked at in LA, ordered it every Friday. I surely miss that. So, Silk Pagoda (from what I have sampled at least) is not like what I've had in other big cities, like LA, but it's definitely quite good. [09 Jun 2002 21:02:15]

Silky Smooth Unlike a recent Digital City review, I won't describe the decor the entire article except to say that it's sleek. On to the food: great traditional Chinese with surprisingly tasty health-conscious menu (steamed).
Let me just rant here briefly. Is there an unspoken rule at Chinese resurants about these two things? One: If you order a drink of any kind, no tea. Otherwise, a teapot is brought to your table. Two: If you order fried rice, any white rice that may have come with entrees is omitted. There should be some kind of warning. "This dish comes with white rice unless you ordered fried rice"
Seems like a rip-off, and the only way around this aside from having to request specifically additional white rice or tea, the most passive approach is to wait until tea is at your table before ordering bar drinks, and to order fried rice only after your meals arrive!
The lunch specials are such a bargain. When you consider you get crackers & duck sauce, tea, soup, rice, and an entree all for around $6, and the quantity of food often provides enough leftovers for a second meal, how can you complain? Unless you're one of those Americans who likes to super-size their meals, in which case, sorry, no take-home. But then is it any wonder how many (over 50%) Americans are considered overweight? If this is your case, then perhaps a restaurant that offers buffet would be a better selection, the only thing I have found lacking at Silk Pagoda. [20 Dec 2002 14:42:10]
