Description

Opened in Dec 2001, Aangan serves traditional Indian chicken, seafood, lamb, and vegetarian entrees, including tandoori dishes.

The weekly lunch buffets ($7.95 on Saturday and $9.95 on Sunday) include salad, soups, appetizer, 5-6 entrees (at least 2 vegetarian), fresh bread, and dessert.

The atmosphere is generally quiet and intimate. The main focus of the dining room is the waterfall that surrounds the entrance. On weekends, dinner is accompanied by live sitar music & belly dance. While reservations are not required, they are highly recommended for dinner.

Very tasty
We've been to Aangan several times. The food is excellent (from the saag paneer to the vindaloo) and the staff wonderful. The appetizers are perhaps the only thing that could be improved. Be sure to order the special coffee just to see how it's poured.

A Delight
Our visit to Aangan was wonderful. We arrived for the luncheon buffet after the crowds of the afternoon were gone. At this time (approx 1:30 pm) there were very few patrons, and the atmosphere was perfect. Service was fast and accurate. Food was superb. We enjoyed each and every item on the buffet and will defintely return to Aangan again. Everyone in our party really enjoyed the Kofta and the Chicken soup. The soup had a creamy base which may have been ground lentils, but we weren't sure and didn't think to ask.    [18 Apr 2003 10:46:07]

Surprisingly Authentic
After living in India with an Indian family for 5 months I fell completely in love with the food. And i worried about being able to find Indian food even close to what i enjoyed in India. When i was completely unimpressed with Passage to India, a Punjabi friend of mine took me to Aangan. He told me that the head Chef here was the head chef at a 5-star thai restaurant in Delhi. Whether or not that is true, i cannot vouch for. What i do know, is that the food at Aangan is fantastic, and is the most authentic Indian food I have ever had outside of India. The coconut chutney leaves a little to be desired, being a tad on the lemony side, but the paneer is fantastic. However if you like your food as spicy as native Indians eat it, you have to ask for very spicy, not just spicy.

I'm no expert by any means, but I have been to Indian restaurants all over the East Coast of the US and all throughout Britain, and while there are 2 Indian restaurants in Philly that are comparable to Aangan, it remains my favorite Indian establishment, and is also the most resonably priced.    [19 Jan 2005 10:43:31]

Nepali Section at Aanga .....
I was very delighted when I got an unexpected visit to Aangan restaurant on April 1st 2005. I am from Atlanta Georgia. While I was visiting one of my friend in Harrisburg which was my first trip to that part of town. All of a sudden we decided to have a Indian dinner for that night then my friend took me to Aangan Restaurant where I found everything absolutely perfect. Staff was wonderful and food was delicious. I have been to many Indian and Nepali Restaurant from east to west cost in USA as well as in UK Singapore and Hong Kong but I have never seen such a fantastic place where they have food for all kinds of people from around the world. Their menu is totally different than any other typical Indian restaurant. I never had such a testy MOMO in my life time even in Nepal. No other Nepali restaurants are comparable with Aangan specially for MOMO.... I wish I could steal their technique.

I tried everything in that restaurant. It was delicious and of course people were very friendly. Not that I was a Nepali guest from another state and I got more attention but I saw every one was getting equal attention in their respective manner. I really fell in love with all of the staff. Most of them are from Nepal and they are very nice people. I even brought a copy of the carryout menu with me that I can show to some of my friends who work in same kind of restaurant business in Georgia. I hope they will improve their services and quality of food after seeing Aangan's menu and price.
I am thinking going back to Harrisburg again just to try some more variety of food in Aangan cause it really worth to fly out there and have that kind of food and service.

Thanks for keeping our Nepali culture alive by making extremely delicious MoMO and providing award winning Gurkha style customer service. On top of that excellent business idea by providing employment not only for Nepali/Indian but also for American waiter/waitress and server. Very good idea. Keep up your excellent service.    [04 Apr 2005 17:31:35]

very enjoyable
My wife and I have been here several times. The place is average looking on the outside, and average to "comfortably nice" on the inside. The service is great, but the food is outstanding. But don't take my word for it, I work with several people that are from various parts of India. On the whole, this is the consensus favorite place for Indian food in the area. Prices are reasonable, and the sunday buffet is a deal too.    [21 Jul 2006 14:44:40]
