You've never had breakfast this way before! My wife and I have lived in Havertown for two years and never even realized Hanne's was there. We stopped by one Sunday morning on a lark. There was a line out the door...good sign. Once we were finally inside, we saw how small the place really is. It is a typical 'rowhome' diner. Very narrow, with tables in the front and down one side. Down the other side is a counter, with the cooking area behind it. While standing there, waiting for a seat to open up, we noticed several people leaving their tables and heading back behind the counter to help themselves to coffee. At first we thought it must just be some friends of the owners. But then we saw at least one person from each table do the same - then we saw people bussing their own plates! We finally got seats at the counter. When we asked to see a menu, we were told there wasn't one and that we could just tell them what we were hungry for and they could pretty much ensure that they could make it. We did, and they did! The food was good, and in nice portions. They were able to meet our needs of egg-beaters. When it came time to pay, it seemed the woman who waited on us (apparently the owner) made up the price in her head - but it was VERY affordable. Some notes of caution: - There is a strong "religious" slant to the decor and there is some denominational literature lying around the entryway. - It was definitely not the cleanest-looking place, but to some extent, that didn't phase us and we are pretty strict on that in our assesment of restaurants.
If you are looking for a communal dining experience unlike any other, try Hanne's. [06 Apr 2003 10:07:17]

I Liked It My son and I stopped in one morning when he should have been in school. We had both come from a doctor's appointment and we felt like cutting a little. Hanne's was the right place, as they; the regulars and I guess Hanne herself, made us feel instantly welcome. It reminded me a lot of going to Sylvia's in North Wildwood, at 4 AM after a night of working at the Red Garter, or 'visiting' Harry's or Moore's. Hanne's has the same kind of friendly people, same kind of laid back attitude. The serving your own coffee was definately a Sylvia's feature, too. I also liked the made up pricing - "how does 12 bucks sound?" Thanks for reminding me of how good just going to a local diner can be. [24 May 2004 14:13:27]

LOVE IT Hanne's is a throw back to all that is good is this country - home cooking, friendship, trust and love all served up with your eggs. No menu, no set prices, you help yourself to juices in the cold case and Chrissie (owner, waitress and fill-in cook) trusts you to 'fess up when you pay. And then you trust Chris to be fair with the price. I have never, ever felt that I over paid, in fact, sometimes I throw in a little more because I think I'm underpaying (when does THAT ever happen nowadays??). As far as the cleanliness - I have no doubt that Hanne's is beyond clean. Chrissie takes pride in her restaurant (that used to be her mom's). It is just a little worn - from all the customers coming in and out. I have been a loyal customer and will continue to be as long as Chrissie flips the OPEN sign.
PS Hanne's is now totally smoke free! [26 Jan 2006 16:47:25]

Enjoyed our breakfast there My wife and I were looking for a place to have breakfast for a morning out. I have lived in the area for 15 years and didn't even know Hanne's was there. We found it on the web and gave it a shot. The food was great, and got to the table hot. The service was great too. We'll be going back and have already recommended it to a couple of friends.
