This Siren Has No Allure
Maybe it was just bad timing, but...
the young dark-haired lady who took my order greeted my request for a Grande Non-fat Vanilla Latte with the stare-of-death and a short expulsion of breath that I usually only encounter when I ask my 10 year-old daughter to help with the dishes. The ostensible manager seemed blithely unaware, as he was preoccupied with dusting the ceiling above the espresso bar--totally oblivious to the fact that dust-bunnies were making a swift descent towards my beverage. The young man who actually did the work of making my drink looked as if he were going to die of embarrassment and gave me a courteous, apologetic look.    [25 Jan 2008 03:49:16]
