Delicious Food, Beautiful Setting
The ambience echoes a lovely Tuscan village with exposed brick, archways, and fountains.
However the food outshines the decor. The veal a la forestière was tender in a flavorful but light Marsala sauce. The asparagus that came with the dish was perfectly prepared.
Even more fun, bar has an extensive martini and fondue list. I had the oatmeal cookie martini instead of dessert, it was that good. A must try.    [20 Apr 2004 14:38:23]

Grotto Restaurant Jack London Square
The Grotto Restauraunt opened in 1936 until around 1990 -- and is it at the site of Kincaids Restaurant at Jock London Square in Oakland today. Check out this great memorabilia page dedicated to remembering the Grotto Restaurant. http://www.alamedainfo.com/grotto_restaurant_oakland.htm    [29 Jul 2004 22:50:39]

SLOW service, burnt food.
10-09-04
We had the crab cake the top was excellent, the bottom was burnt black. The veal picante was OK but not enough meat. The pasta served with it was tasteless. The service was VERY SLOW, I've been served faster in Paris. The waiter never asked if we wanted another drink, at least someone re-filled our water once. We had coffee after dinner and were not offered a second cup. Will not return.    [09 Oct 2004 23:10:40]
