Disappointing Mother's Day After 4 years of exceptional Mother's Day brunch experiences at the Logan Inn from 2003-2006, I could not have been more disappointed at my recent visit on Mother's Day 2007. The Logan Inn must be under new management. The number and variety of brunch items were far less than in prior years, the food was lackluster, and the service was surly and inattentive.
We made our reservations 5 weeks before Mother's Day, certainly far enough in advance that our request for an inside table, large enough for 6, could be accomodated. Instead, we were taken to a cramped table in a corner, wedged against a side window and wall. Even though our party had been reduced to 4 due to an illness in the family, the table was too small. The only way we could arrange ourselves comfortably was to sit side by side along one side of the table. This placed us in a position where we were looking out the window rather than at one another.
The food was as uninspiring as any I've seen. It was certainly well below the level you would expect in New Hope/ Bucks County area. There was a typical selection of breakfast meats, omelets, and pasta. The carving station included roast beef (tough), turkey, and ham. Gone was the filet from prior years, as well as the numerous seafood selections featured in the past. There was a single line, rather than several separate areas as in prior years. This meant everyone had to wait in the same line, regardless of whether they wanted an omelet, slice of beef, scallops newburg, or a waffle. The delay was unbearable and left diners with the impression it was intentional to cut down on the number of trips to the buffet customers were willing to endure.
Dessert was a disgrace. Instead of an offering of mousse, cakes, pies, ambrosia, cannolis, etc., you were directed to "let us know when you're ready for dessert." Once informed, the waitress placed a single plate of cookies on the table. When we asked for a box to take several cookies home, we were rudely informed that "This is a buffet. You can't take food home." By this time, we were all so disgusted, that no one felt it worthwhile to point out that desserts served at a table are not "buffet items." We concluded they must be re-serving any desserts remaining to the next party of unsuspecting victims.
For $33.95, it was a complete rip-off. Surly service and forgettable food can be had for much less. For $33.95, there should have at least been a complimentary glass of champagne. For Mother's Day, there should have been a rose or some token for the women present.
Patrons at tables near ours were equally disappointed. We saw at least one party take a look and simply walk out.
I will never dine at this restaurant again--brunch. lunch, or dinner. [06 Jun 2007 04:24:38]
