Description

Tucked away on 12 acres of rolling countryside, the Joseph Ambler Inn offers the features expected of a great country inn.
Joseph Ambler, a skilled wheelwright, built the original fieldstone house in 1734. The tenant cottage featuring five guest rooms and the stone bank-barn, housing an award winning restaurant, were added in stages during the 1800 and 1900's. An additional building, the Thomas Wilson House built, in 1856, was moved to the Joseph Ambler Inn in 1997, restored and expanded. It houses 10 beautfully appointed guestrooms. Peaceful lawns, gardens, and meadows surround the buildings.

The authentically restored bed and breakfast offers year round accommodations. Guests are encouraged to enjoy three lovely living rooms in the original house. Wander through the school room with its cherry wainscoting and massive walk-in fireplace, where a fire blazes each night in the winter.

Thirty-seven guest rooms are tastefully decorated with antique and period furnishings... all with telephones, computer modem access, cable televisions, air conditioning, and private modern baths. Each room possesses an individual flavor which adds to the unique character of the Inn. Overnight guests are treated to a complimentary full country breakfast.
The 1987 renovation of the stone bank barn included the addition of an elegant colonial restaurant which beckons guests into its carefully appointed dining room. Random-width hardwood floors, handcrafted cherry tables, Windsor chairs and original exposed stone walls create the ambiance for fine dining. Exquisite cuisine, attention to detail, and an award-winning wine list combine to make Joseph Ambler Inn one of the area's most popular places to dine.

Fabulous food, atmosphere and people
I recently had dinner at the Joseph Ambler Inn. From the moment I drove on to the property I was amazed at how beautiful it was. I was greeted by a very nice young woman. She was warm and welcoming. I started with the Belgian Endive salad. It came with mixed greens, fresh mozzarella and a roasted vegetable vinaigrette. My husband had the marinated mushroom spinach salad. He said it was the best salad he ever had. He had the Cert. Angus Beef Steak. It was flavorful and delicious. I had the rack of veal with risotto and trumpet mushrooms. We were too full for dessert. Which was a shame since we really wanted to try a few! However, we will be back!    [23 Jan 2002 23:48:25]

Not a place for a wedding
The grounds are beautiful. If you hire a wedding coordinator with your package, do not expect assistance. We had no guidance at the rehearsal dinner. The buffet ran out of food for 15 of our guests despite a complete and perfect head count. We had a few less people come than expected. The power went out due to a storm. There were no generators, no candles or flashlights in the rooms or bathrooms and no guidance for alternatives. The wedding should have begun at 6pm although no one was there to give a cue. The bride and her father finally began on their own at 6:25pm. When the step mother of the bride asked for someone to attend to the bride, the staff asked well what questions does she have, we can tell you. There was not one step of customer service done. A wedding without power, no coordinator. Food was sparse and they ran out. What a disappointment for one of the most important days in someone's life.    [08 Aug 2002 08:20:53]

Great Food-Great Place
What a difference a couple of years makes. We recently went back to the Joseph Ambler Inn after some mediocre meals a few years earlier. What an improvement! Every dish was fresh and crisp-best crabcakes I've ever had! When we asked what the difference was we were told they had hired a new executive chef, and new management. Good Job! It will be our place to dine.    [26 Jan 2003 14:24:21]

JOSEPH AMBLER INN
iNFO ON THIS WEBSITE IS INCORRECT. The Joseph Ambler Inn does not have Kobe or CAB steak anymore. There has been a new chef for two years. SHE is fabulous!!! Give it a try.    [20 Feb 2004 12:15:33]
