Great Place Never had a bad meal at Cafe Sam's. The menu is extensive enough for any picky eater; food for the meat & potatoes person and enough pizzazz for the more sophisticated diner. Best yet, it's all very reasonable. [15 Apr 2002 11:37:16]

Great Find In an area of fast food, Cafe Sam's was a great restaurant, not too pricey, huge portions, good variety. Also many of the selections can be ordered with different sauces, etc. giving even more of a variety. Service was a little slow, but worth the wait. We have occasion to visit Shadyside about once a week now so this will be our new hangout. [07 Sep 2003 11:46:18]

Outstanding We went with a group of eight and shared everything from wines to appitizers to entrees to desserts. Everything we sampled was delicious, well presented and in large portions. Mary and her staff were more than gracious and attentive. The prices were a pleasant surprise as well. We all plan on making it a regular dining spot. In fact, we're headed back there tonight. Unexpected jewel Wow. Restricted to the neighborhood during a snow storm while traveling, Cafe Sam was recommended to me by the nearby hotel. I was amazed. Being a pretty high end foodie for 20+ years, this place was one of the best meals I've ever had. Portions were more than generous without being overboard, prices unbelievably low, and the quality - outstanding. I want to return to Pittsburgh - solely for Cafe Sam. [30 Jan 2005 14:41:06]

What a gem Visiting Pittsburgh, after a day of driving, wandered from the hotel to this wonderful restaurant. I took a chance. Now I wish I lived here so I could go back and try more dishes. Fast food all around, and this treat in the midst of it all. Cost less than chain restaurants and 10 times better. [03 Mar 2005 19:54:40]

My favorite I've been haunting Cafe Sam's for years now and have managed to introduce all of my friends to it. Going to Cafe Sam's is always an experience. I've learned not to look at the menu until after the wait staff has presented the long list of the day's specials. They are always intriguing and never commonplace. I've never had a bad meal there. Who would expect to see a strolling server offering the days appetizer to every table? It is such fun to anticipate what the special appetizer will be for any given day. Deviled eggs are my favorite. The staff is friendly and the food is plentiful with excellent prices. There are so many unique little touches that this restaurant offers that you would only expect to find in a really upscale restaurant, like the little cookies presented with your bill. I love this place. [05 Dec 2005 20:15:48]

Great Menu, Unbelievable Price Time and time again, this small neighborhood restaurant is able to pack a punch against all the competition. No idea how they do it, but where are you going to match the 15 oz. New York Strip Steak for $19.95 that everyone else is selling for $30.00 plus? And how about the 10 oz. cosmopolitan martini for $6.75? Beside that, the restaurant is stocked with Culinary Institute of America graduates (there is a banner in the bar, the menu is creative, and the quality superb. This place is a true Pittsburgh gem.
