Horrible Service The inn itself is very quaint and interesting because of its age (dated 1758) and history.
The food was good, but the service was horrible. For a restaurant of that calibre and expense, we were treated horribly. We arrived at 8:00 p.m., the time of our reservation, and were told that our table was not ready. We were asked to sit in the lounge. We ordered a drink. A half an hour passed and we inquired as to when we would be seated. We were told that it was an oversight and to wait a few more minutes. Then we were asked if we wanted to order another drink. I told the waitress, no, and we would like to be seated immediately. All of a sudden a table was ready. Then during the meal, right before our entrees were served, the waiter told us that two orders were ahead of ours, so it would be a while before our meal would come out. I've never been told that in a nice restaurant, only at a diner! (And I've eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world, including Beau Rivage in Ouchy Switzerland.)
Then when we didn't order any more drinks, miraculously our dinner appeared. The food was excellent, however, if you don't want to wait when you arrive don't order a drink. They try to pad the bill by trying to get you to order more drinks.
The exotic mushroom soup was delicious. The soft shell crabs were good, but a little dry because they didn't have enough sauce with them. The chairs were uncomfortable, I kept feeling like I was going to slide off the chair. I thought the entire restaurant was lit by candles only, but it isn't. There are some electric lights, so I would say I was a little disappointed with the ambiance. In addition, the tables didn't have tablecloths. They had place mats which I didn't care for. Excellent Dining Experience The Dilworthtown Inn is a culinary jewel. From the incomparable ambiance (especially in spring and during the winter holidays--gorgeous!) and lovely charm of the cozy rooms, to the truly excellent and inventive fare, this one's worth a trip for anyone who enjoys good food and a classy but comfortable environment. Be prepared for a pretty stiff investment -- quite pricy for a suburban locale -- but, for special occasions, the price is worth it. [25 Jul 2003 14:06:04]

Excellent, if you look the part I agree with the other reviewer that got poorly treated. If you aren't dressed to look wealthy...you may as well eat in the kitchen. We were given roughly the same poo-poo attitude until the moment we ordered the $200 bottle of wine (I wasn't paying for it). Then they were all over us the rest of the evening. Until then we were just taking up their time. That said, I've eaten there 4-5 times, and the food was always top notch. Good wine list as well. [07 Aug 2003 15:42:32]

Cater to business people I've eaten here a few times in the past, as a guest to my father-in-law or his business associates. Since they all knew my f-in-l, we were treated well. The atomsphere was lovely and the food is good. I would guess if you have clout, you are treated better. [05 Apr 2004 18:49:37]
