Incredible, Authentic Mexican Cuisine
Having come from Florida I had the opportunity to savor many authentic Hispanic cuisines, primarily Mexican and Cuban. Finding good Mexican cuisine in central PA can be daunting at best. One more commonly finds chains such as Chi-chi's and Don Pablo's which as far as chain restaurants go as descent enough. But when one has had the experience of authentic Mexican and desires nothing less than that, El Rodeo delivers!

Once you're at your table, you're served fresh corn chips with a bottle of very spicy salsa. Have water on hand! On the menu is the standard fare of tacos and burritos, but don't expect Taco Bell style. These are served up in enormous portions with generous side dishes. There are house specialties to be chosen from, in addition to enchiladas, flautas, and so on.

The food is impeccable; the service friendly, prompt and courteous; the atmosphere a little over the top, but reminiscent of Mexico.    [13 Jun 2002 11:46:12]

Margarita Madness
I'm 100% addicted to El Rodeo's margaritas. My girlfriend and I dine and imbibe there whenever possible. We love the atmosphere and food too.    [08 Oct 2004 11:56:59]

I have been to El Rodeo many times. I've tried just about everything. Very authentic and good prices. The service used to be fabulous but lately is lacking. No smiles, no thank yous. I love the ambiance and wouldn't change a thing.    [24 Nov 2004 12:28:30]

Home from Home
I grew up in a Tex-Mex family in Powell, Wyoming. Until now, I had not found a "Mexican Restaurant" that managed to get the right tastes and textures. You could be in Pigra Negras, Mexico, Hondo, Texas, or my Abuela's kitchen. If you want the real thing, you have got to visit El Rodeo.

Not bad up here
Grew up in York, but after living in Houston, Texas for a few years I really got to enjoy great authentic Mexican food. After moving back, I must say El Rodeo is the best Mexican I've had since I moved back. It's really unremarkable - it'd be your average-to-slightly-below-average Mexican restaurant in Houston. But for being way up here in PA, it's not a bad effort. Salsa not very spicy at all - I'd like to see some green salsa too. Something with huevos. Extra credit for having Dos Equis Amber (not Special Lager) on tap. Portions a bit smaller than you'd see further south - not all dishes come with a big pile of rice and fried beans as you would expect.    [26 Dec 2005 13:22:14]

Not Authentic; Service Is Horrible
I am from Texas and I must say that I am quite disappointed in what the town of York lets people get away with when they say "authentic" Mexican food. It isn't. The food is average at best, and the furthest thing from authentic. To top it off, I tried to eat there three times before I finally got in because once I showed up at 8:30 when they closed at 9:00 and was told they "didn't have time to serve me." Another time I was told that I "could not wait for a non-smoking table. They had only smoking available" and would not make a wait list. I was eight months pregnant by the way. So when I finally got in to eat (craving Mexican food as a preggo from TX) I actually ended up at the one in Lancaster and the food was good, but portions were small, salsa was bad, and they are cheap (where's my big rice, beans, salsa, guacamole, chips, etc.). Overall, I make my own Mexican and I will be happy to wait until I can go south for AUTHENTIC Mexican food and service.    [24 Jun 2006 19:17:27]

LOVED IT!!
I thought the food was great. I love Mexican food. I agree the service could have be better. "Thank-yous, etc" would have been appreciated. But overall I thought is was wonderful. My 4 year old even loved it and he's got a sensitive stomach. I highly recommend going there.    [20 Sep 2006 16:38:38]

Not LA good but for PA I'll take it
Mexican food in PA. Yeah, right. But it's pretty close. If you like spicy, you'll have to ask for it special, but the flavors were pretty good. Refried beans were the best I've had since LA. Good portions. If you don't like greasy food, though, you'll have to steer carefully on the menu.    [03 Nov 2006 01:17:39]

Pretty good Mexican for York, PA
I've come from San Diego,CA and now reside in York,PA. Of course you are not getting what you would get in California, Arizona, Texas etc. as far as price and quantity, but I have to admit it's not to bad when I'm craving Mexican food. I usually stick to certain dishes.    [09 Nov 2006 20:11:08]

The Clostest to Authentic Tex-Mex
I really enjoy the whole experience here. My family lived in San Antonio for many years and really missed the food until we found El Rodeo. It's as close as we can find.    [03 May 2007 20:47:28]
