Our experience at 22 Bowen's was less than favorable. Food was OK, salads are BLAH ! The beef was OK but nothing that special. Wiggly table legs and a surly waiter topped off the evening. $150 for a party of 3. The motto for the restaurant should be "Ordinary food at extraordinary prices". [26 Nov 2001 08:12:57]

Bowen's 22 - Need some lessons in Service in Hospitality I am appalled by the staff of Bowens'22 and the reviews that speak of "the best steak house in the US" and other "raves" clearly don't get out much! Their food is mediocre, their prices over-inflated. C'mon: $40 for a filet mignon a la carte??? Go to Mortons or Ruth Chris' anywhere and you will enjoy a far better experience with far better wait staff and management and far better timing between courses. After visiting 3 times in one week (liking the atmosphere, location and the fact that they were the ONLY nice restaurant open on weekdays in the off season) we decided to return for a Thursday evening dinner for 4 between Christmas and New Year's. One of us has a neurological problem (trigeminal neuralgia) that causes sturmbling, slurring, face drooping, etc. and AFTER they seated us they refused to serve us liquor saying that we were all intoxicated!!!!!!! When we disputed that comment (with a pilot, a retired probation officer, the owner of a trucking company and a travel writer) they asked us to leave. We were herded out like cattle by a less-than-sympathetic and more-surly-than-our-waitress and immature manager. Although we complained in emails and by phone we have YET to receive a response. The food is mediocre. The atmosphere is fabulous, the staff sucks all the way around with the exception of one female bartender. The timing between courses is REALLY bad and the prices are over the top. One dozen SMALL oysters that took 25 minutes to deliver: $28?!? Drinks in the $8-9 range. Cheaper California wines in Europe and European wines in California: 300% mark-up??? I know. I worked in the Napa Valley for Cakebread and others for several years. Their special seasonal menus are the ONLY good deal and the food was good but not great. Biggest problem was the service. Would I NOT recommend? No. Would I recommend for anyone with MS/Parkinson's/nerve disorders/cancer or other physical ailments. NEVER!!! They clearly - like Egypt - only wish to serve happy, healthy patrons. handicapped patrons are a blight on their who-do-we-cater/market to lists.

We have been there on numerous occasions and never had any problems with the food or service. Expensive, what isn't now adays. We are taking our out of town friends there this weekend because we're pretty sure they will be happy there. [02 Aug 2006 10:40:45]
