Newport: Bannister's & Bowen's Wharf
Description
The Mooring is Newport’s premiere waterfront restaurant in the heart of the downtown historic district offering spectacular seafood and views..
In the Spring, Summer and Fall, you will enjoy ocean breezes, classic yachts and magnificent sunsets. In the Winter, the warmth and New England charm of our fireside dining offers a luxurious atmosphere.
Our executive chef Phil Larson delights our guests with creatively prepared meats, glacial salads, and the freshest of local fish, seafood and lobster.
Complimenting Phil’s traditional New England cuisine is our extensive wine list, which received the prestigious Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator Magazine 5 years in a row – 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 200

Don't waste your time... This restaurant is over-rated and the staff is extremely rude. Don't bother with the long wait -- just go to the bar and have a bowl of chowder and move on to a more enjoyable place. [25 Feb 2002 14:24:30]

California wines are king here. This is not gourmet dining and in the Summer season a full house is the rule and service can be less than stellar. However, The Mooring has a California wine list that is second to none in Rhode Island--and priced very fairly. Their lobster salad is excellent, if pricey. Scallop chowder good also. Raw bar items are always top-notch. In the bar you can smoke a cigar--one of the few places left where the anti-smoking Nazis haven't completely taken over. If you like great wines, expert bartenders and fresh seafood, the Mooring will fill the bill. [15 Sep 2002 11:11:50]

Smoke Nazis have struck A decent enough place, there are better in Newport though. Also, as of (who knows when) they are a non-smoking establishment. So much for that after dinner cigar and scotch. [01 Oct 2003 20:38:10]

Eat Elsewhere! I have eaten here after they have refurbished the place. They must have gotten a new chef....food is NOT good. Most dishes are oil laden, or undercooked. High prices for food, not well cooked! Other places nearby, much better! I wish they would get back the old chef, and probably their older menu! [30 Nov 2006 22:13:02]

Overinflated prices for underwhelming food I have eaten at The Mooring for years and it has gone steadily downhill. The service is attitudinal when they are busy, and it's not worth the wait or the price. I have gotten undercooked food and everything is very heavy...Very sad considering it has one of the prettiest views of the boats on the wharf and could easily be one of the best restaurants in Newport. They truly exist just to bilk the tourists and boat owners. [22 Jul 2007 18:22:33]
